Book Recommendation??

Hi there -

I was wondering if you all have a book recommendation to get a new nursing student. She is entering a direct-entry NP program in a couple of months. Knowing what you all know now, if you had to get one book (text, reference book, etc) when you started your nursing school, what would it be? Thanks for your help!

It's not a textbook, but someone gave me "Chicken Soup for the Nurse's Soul" and it really encouraged me when I read it, especially during school. She might appreciate a B&N gift card, as class-required texts often cost a lot!!

I loved, loved, loved this book when I was a student:

"How to Survive and Maybe Even Love Nursing School" by Kelli Dunham

The gift card idea suggested by SteveRN21 is fabulous as well!

1) A gift card to a local book store is a GREAT idea (Borders has a great Borders Reward Club that you can sign up for in the store and they send great discount coupons via e-mail -- REALLY helpful financially); they a student always needs "one more book"

2) The book StlRN mentions is also good (and was given to our class by our college at an orientation).

3) Also, any of the Incredibly Easy series of books are really helpful, or check out a subscription to their magazine (Nursing Made Incredibly Easy: http://www.amazon.com/Nursing-Made-Incredibly-Easy/dp/B0000C4CWX ) ...they explain things a little more visually and in a little bit more "English" for us laymen!!
