BON-No Background Check??

since i will be graduating in a few months i was reading the virginia bon website and i came across this: "many states are now requiring criminal background checks for licensure, although virginia does not." what???

i guess i had the misconception that all bons would do a background check. :imbar well, i am in shock,lol. could someone please explain the rationale for a bon not doing a background check? it just seems to me like a no-brainer. :)

Perhaps they assume this has been carried out by your school as a requirement for admission.

Ohhhhhhh, that's scary.........my school did not do a background check, but then that was also 20 years ago. Still........

My school did a background check. But I figure a background check by the BON would be a good idea because anything can happen between the time you start school and NCLEX.

New Hampshire has been doing background checks for a couple of years, but it's the state that's requiring it, not the BON. They actually (I'm told) quietly passed the bill and the BON wasn't even aware of the fact that the bill was on the table! Now, I do NOT mind background checks in our line of work, but the state makes US pay for it with our license renewal every two years! It's not a lot of money, $15 or $25 or something like that, just the principle of the thing, I suppose. I wonder if doctors have background checks here too? Anyway, some states to require it, I'm not sure why all of them don't though. :)
