i've been turned into the bon for multiple things, a lawyer is $5000 to obtain
and i'm scared....and i didn't do anything wrong......you know how when someone doesn't like you you can't do anything right??????i am looking for advice since i'm on my own. charges are forgetting to sign out a narc that i took out, giving sleeper and pain med at the same time ("unsafe" she said), "strange behavior" (washed my hair in the breakroom sink when i got something in it) and hanging around pyxis trying to get people's access (i was only hanging around to get my meds when they were done-all meds were in one pyxis for all patients on floor)

1. At most places when you forget to sign out a narc, you go and sign it out.
2. Giving a sleeper and a pain med isn't unusual it's done all the time. If the doctor didn't want them given together he should specify it.
3. Ask the person if a patient threw some feces in their hair, would'nt they go in the bathroom and try and wash it out.
4. If you weren't standing in line looking over peoples shoulders, but were in line like you were supposed to be "What me worry?".

fsince they don't know where the narcs are they are formally accusing me of drug trafficking and unprofessionalism for the "strange behavior"

Dana, are they charging you with narcotic diversion?? And if they are, have they sent you for a urine drug screen? I am so sorry this is happening to you. The hospital does not really have to prove anything, they can turn you into the board for just the suspicion. If an investigation was randomly done on a group of nurses, a case could be made against most of them. I know we all try, but sometimes a piece of charting can be forgotten, or some bit of information may not be passed on in report. Any behavior can be taken out of context. If someone really wants, they can turn a set of situations into something really ugly. An attorney is probably your best bet. There are pre-paid legal services, about $20.00 to join, you could consult with them for free, then if more legal help is needed, it is at a reduced rate. It is a real shame that nurses treat other nurses so badly....it calls to mind the witch hunts in salem. I hope you can get this all worked out. It is a terrible feeling to know you were just doing your job as best you could..and WHAM. I am beginning to think the shortage of nurses is due to other nurses.
yes....i tested negative so now i'm questionable diversion for the 6 narcs..i had prepaid atty insurance when i worked there but it dropped when i left...that figures. i can't imagine anyone putting their career on the line for a couple pills...i hope the bon can discriminate a documentation error from diversion. i don't understand why people go so far when they don't like someone. and it feels terrible to do nothing right for them. florida could have been a paradise (i love sarasota) and now it is my worst nightmare.
i can't afford a lawyer (i have several children and i'm a single mom) so if anyone has any advice..... thanks!!!!!!

You have to find a way to afford a lawyer because you cannot afford to lose your license. How will you support your children if that happens? Ask around. Some lawyers will offer a free consultation and will also accept a payment plan. Are there any RN-Attorneys who might be willing to work with you? Check with your local nursing organizations. You may even be able to obtain some referrals from these forums.
I recently was in a situation (personal...not work related) where the services of an attorney were an absolute regardless of the cost. My accrued legal bill was $15,000 and I'll be paying that attorney off over 5 years! But sometimes we don't have much choice in these matters. I'd rather not be in debt but at least the legal issue was resolved in my favor and I can rest easy. The consequences of losing were far greater (both emotionally and financially) then the $15,000 debt.

I don't have any advice, but I wanted to extend my best wishes that this gets quickly resolved. Good luck
at least the investigator seems fair......attorneys can be....well......i wish i could hire one so here it goes to defending my judgement. it still amazes me how a couple people can really screw up your whole life. i've been a nurse 28 years and have never seen anything quite so rude but....here goes my whole life to satisy a couple of gossipers....hoping my skills stand up...
"when bad things happen to good people........"
hope this never happens to any of you........
