This is a repost, I also posted it in the A&P thread.
Well I completely bombed my second test (though I did better than the average). I'm taking it online and I just haven't quite figured out how to absorb all of this information. I'm quite stressed. My grade for the class has dropped to a C, that will still get me credit but I really wanted to do better. I have a lab test either Monday or Tuesday, I'll take it Tuesday because I'm not ready for it.
Here is how I study,
I read the lecture notes, in Java AND PowerPoint form, highlighting the book as I go. I read the chapter. I use the study guide to make notecards and then review them. I also use various websites to test myself. I utilize every moment, I study between calls at work. I am taking Statistics online as well and that does take up some of my study time.
What else could I be doing?
Dee, websites aren't good for me either. I tend to do the same thing; I memorizing the wording of the questions but I don't actually retain the information.I took A&P online as well and it is extremely difficult. I also have children so I understand being pre-occupied by the little angels. I also understand how life can get in the way of reading the material. I often find myself drifting off while I read and then having to re-read the material. OMG it frusterating! I ended up getting an A in both A&P I and II but it was in part because we did a lot of lab work. Had my grade been based on my tests alone, I probably would've ended up with a C at best.
Also, just because you got a C doesn't mean you aren't going to get into nursing school. My friend that just got into the nursing program got a C in Biology and she got in. So just remember that a C isn't necessarily going to keep you out of nursing school.
Oh NO,i agree with Bicster A&PI,A&Pll are the building blocks you much know this information,Nursing schools expect you to know human body.A c is science is guessing the answers.
Is it too late in the semester for you to switch your class status to "audit" so that you will not have to have a C on your transcript? That way you can still continue with the work and won't feel as stressed because you won't be receiving an actual grade. Then take the class for credit next semester. I am assuming that if you drop now you will not get your money back.
I'm going to continue with the class. I believe my biggest downfall last week was the other things that I had going on in my life, I couldn't concentrate and learn the information. I did better on my lab test tonight, not as good as I would have liked but better.
BTW, I've already taken A&P2, I got a B in it. I know that sciences are very important. I do find it funny that people are so down on anything less than an A in pre-reqs yet when it comes to the actually nursing classes the motto is C=RN.
I agree with Bicster, this is your foundation, you cant build a house on sand... this is the most important part, you will want to LEARN, not just temporarily retain the ins and outs of A&P. The most important part of nursing is where everything is and how it works, your going to grasp it on a macro level in A&P, if you dont get it now you will regret it when in nursing school they ask you to critically think on a micro level.
plus i will say A&P is not something i would want to take online at all, you definately need someone to break the things down for you that you dont understand, not everyone will understand everything the first time it is encountered

I just finished taking A&P I, II & III online. I think if I had to do it all over again, maybe I would have been better off taking it in person, but I kept going. I studied every single spare minute I had for those classes. I couldn't have studied anymore than I did & I came out with B's in all of them. I wish they were A's but I truly studied as much as I possibly could. Taking it on-line may have been harder than in person is what I'm thinking now. I don't know. I know they are hard classes either way to get through. Keep trying as hard as you can! There are many people that have to take these classes more than once so don't feel bad - you know you are doing the best you can.
