Okay who knows how common is it to develop septicemia from recurrent boils? Have any of you seen this? Any good links/with statistics?
Thanks

In 10 years of home health nursing I have seen a more frequent occurance of community acquired MRSA infections which often manifest as skin lesions which resemble boils. Often the portal of entry is long term indwelling foley or wounds including decubiti. Yes, people do become septic from MRSA. I strongly encourarge pts presenting with boils to seek medical assessment of above and have boils cultured to R/O MRSA.

Do you suggest they go to the er immediately to have their potential sepsis-inducing MRSA-boils evaluated?
