I quit my job today. It was the result of being falsely accused of forcing someone to take their meds. Anybody here had a patient that hates them for no reason. I DO!! Any advice or someone in a similar situation?

I was asked a question similar to your situation on my interview where I work. I had no idea how to handle a situation like this. My manager said that the proper way to handle such a situation is to first discuss it with the pt. Say to them something like "I have noticed that you seem to be feeling uncomfortable having me as a nurse. Can you tell me how you feel about me and what I can do to make you feel more comfortable with me?" Try to get them to talk to you. If they really don't want to discuss it with you, involve your TL or ClinII in it. Tell them whats going on, and let them talk to the pt. Often it's a miscommunication or lack of knowledge. Sometimes you just don't "mesh". If it is really a problem, the pt has a right to request another nurse, but you cannot request to be reassigned (abandonment). If they switch nurses, don't feel like its you, it is often other unrelated issues with the pt that manifests itself in hostility towards their caregivers. Also remember to document everything (your management can help you). Some hospitals have pt advocates, or the Chaplains can get involved to help the pt with their problems. All customer service issues should be reported to your TL's, regardless of whether you resolve it on your own or not.
You will never be able to get along with everyone all the time.
