Boards -help

Published

I have taken boards twice. After recievig my letter back from boards indicating my weakness, it continues to say near passing, above in one, and below in another. I am so confused as to how to continue to study for a test that says that I was near passing. If anyone can shed tips please do so. I am lost:crying2:

Thanks

Hi there. I am sorry you are feeling so badly. You shouldn't. Sometimes, it takes a few tries to pass the boards. How are you studying? Are you just reading text and trying to memorize? Pay special attention to where the letter says your weaknesses are and focus on those. Are you doing practice tests? A lot of nursing doesn't require memorization so much as critical thinking. You will find that on the boards, most of what they ask has to do with ideal circumstances and priorities. Of course, in the real world, there aren't ideal circumstances. A friend told me to take the boards as though I was caring for my own family and what I would want done first and foremost.

If you are having trouble remembering labs or drugs, make little note cards with answers on the back and go over them wherever you are. At work, at school...wherever. Just whip them out and test yourself all the time.

I found that using the CD's at the back of my NCLEX books is what helped me the most. I must have gone over those dozens of times and each time, I got a little better.

What you shouldn't do is allow yourself to be discouraged. Some people just don't do well on tests. Relax the night before your boards. Don't try to cram in more studying. Do something you enjoy and allow yourself to feel at ease. Not passing the boards the first time out does not make you a bad candidate for nursing. Remember that.

Good luck to you.

Please contact your nursing school and ask for assistance in evaluating your weaknesses and preparing to retake NCLEX.

The happily took your tuition money for 2-4 years, awarded you passing grades in classroom and clinical courses and have a vested interest in seeing you pass boards.

They also know you and are in a far better position than anyone else to help you objectively identify and address your needs and devise an individualized study program.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks, so much. I have taken kaplan and have doe many practice questions from the cds that come with the nclex review book. I beleive my weakness is my approach to the critical thinking questions. Thanks again

Take a short break before starting to study again. Ignore your print out reading and start a study plan as if you haven't studied before. Practise questions and read the rationale even if you got it right

Hang in there and DO NOT GIVE UP

Thank you very much, and I will never give up!!!!
