Board of nursing requirement

World Registration

Published

Hello nurse Beth,

I'm a foreign educated nurse. I have a bachelor degree in IT and a master of nursing science from the university of Melbourne, Australia. I'm in the process of gaining my registration here in GA for more than a year now. It took CGFNS international long time to submit their report to the board of nursing. Finally, they did and the board of nursing asked me to take a course in maternal and infant nursing. Looking into taking such a course I realized that no institution is willing to let me take only one course. I contacted many institutions and they all said that I can take a whole program but not one course alone. Do you have a suggestion for me? Do you know an institution that will allow me to take one course only?

By the way, it's true that I didn't have a dedicated course for maternal and infants nursing but we did cover this subject under few different courses. Doesn't that count for something?

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

If the transcript didn't show clinical and theory hours on the subject then no it doesn't count. This make up is something we see often for both UK and Australian nurses Whilst in California we are seeing his affecting many international nurses

Do you know which university or collage will allow me to take this course? All the institutions I contacted told me that I can't take one course only. I need to enroll into a whole program :(

From what I have seen written here there are a couple of places in CA but they now have long waiting lists or are very expensive. I haven't heard anywhere else in the US that may offer these make up courses

Hi Nurse Beth,

How did this work out for you? I was recently accepted into the Melbourne program but want to practice in my home country of US one day
