BMCC - Pre Req Class Schedule

Hi everyone! First off, I love this site! Such a treasure trove of information.

About me- I plan on attending BMCC this fall (Hooray), and I'm trying to map out a decent schedule. I've been out of school for 17 yrs. and I don't want to get overwhelmed or discouraged. I work full-time, and will be taking evening/weekend courses. Here's the scedule:

1st Semester (fall 2009)

Eng 101

Mat 051

Psy 100

Che 121

2nd Semester (spring 2010)

Mat 104

Bio 425

Eng 201

Summer I

Bio 426

3rd Semester (fall 2010)

Psy 240

Bio 420

Does this look good? Do you think taking the AP2 course in the summer is a good idea? I understand the class is daily, and I'm concerned with 'information overload' in such a short period of time. Although I do pick things up quickly...I'm still nail biting over this.

So if all turns out well (A's in pre reqs/high gpa) when would I sign up for pre clinicals? At the end of the second semester (once my grades are in, and all pre reqs are completed)? Will I officially start the pre clinical portion Jan. 2011?

According to the bmcc calendar, I must register for the fall classes 8/21-8/27. Is that how it goes? I think that would make me a liberal arts major (right?).

Thanks in advance!

i go to bmcc...i would recommend taking 2 classes each semester since you work to get all A's that's how i did it ... ap2 in summer is good just gotta have the time to study everyday for a month I just finished taking it last week

Thx Diana for the input.

How do you like the school so far? What classes have you taken to date?

so far so good..all schools have they pros and cons it is all up to you on how much effort you put in on what you doing... i only have micro left to take from general edu.. am going to start nur112 now in the fall

when you on the last semester of taking your preclinicals you can apply for nursing112 and at the end of the semester when grades are in you dont have to wait to the grades to be in in order to apply if you a preclinical nursing student...if librals arts you have to first change your major...registration is late for new students... once you enrolled you can register early like everyone else

Thank you SOOO much for taking the time to respond.

I've decided to scale down my course load until I get back into the swing of things.

Thanks again.

I tried to take a cross there and emailed them 2 weeks ago and was told that all slots for their science weekend classes were filled. Can anyone tell when do they open their classes for fall registration?

Fall registration begins August 21-27th, and classes begin on the 28th.

Good luck.

that's strange because they are already filled up and i can't register for my micro bio which is the last class i need

Current students are allowed to register early.

so then by the non degree want to take a class there aren't any slots open

Does anyone know of a school that holds Microbiology during the winter break, its the only pre req i'm missing and i can't find a school that will let me take it at the sametime that i'm taking A& P 2 and I complete that course in November so I wanted to take it as soon as i was done with it.

Hi there, I am a graduate of BMCC's Nursing Program. Your schedule is ok. You must try to complete all pre-req's in 1 year flat. Summer semester's double up on easy classes if possible ie: English 1,2, Psyche 1,2, Speech is definitely a summer class. The Sciences you should focus on A&P 1 and 2, Micro, Chem. 1 , Nur. Math- You can take 2 Sciences together towards the end of your pre-req's if it comes down to it. But only if you have mostly A's. which you better or you can forget getting into BMCC's Program!! I kid you not! I too went nights and worked full time during the day, and they only have 33 seats. I was number 34 and initially did not get in. This is something a lot of people don't know. They think they will get in, over 500 students apply for 33 seats and only the best of the best get in. After crying for 3 days straight and praying and asking God what to do next? I went to transfer out, and met a former class mate on line getting his transcript. He asked me what did I get in A&P 2, which we took together. I told him I got an "A" but still didn't make it in to the Nursing program because the cut off was 3.68 and My GPA was 3.67 they took the top 33 grades and I was number 34 in line. He said to me - I got it but I'm transfering out- do you want my seat?! I couldn't believe my Luck, I cried right then and there and begged him to come upstairs with me to Mr. Sierra. Long story short I did get in. But it was by the grace of God! So young lady- you Better Get all "A"s if you really want this. Study study study! And if you have all A's and need to take double Sciences, you can go to the Science Director and get special permission. I had to do that because it was going to be my last class and I didn't want to wait another whole semester to apply for nursing.

Good Luck to you. I hope my advice was helpful.
