So often we want to associate an illness or misfortune to a specific cause. We want a specific answer to why did this happen to me! My child got his shots then got diagnosed with autism, I had an abortion now I have cervical cancer, I was exposed to (fill in the blank) now such and such happened, I ate carrots at lunch and got in a MVA driving home (I know it is silly but often it makes as much sense.) I would think your BP has been gradually going up due to age, genetics, diet, general health, etc. I'm not saying I know the answer to your question. I know you were just asking a "general" question, just curious.

Ok, another dumb question as I sit here healing....but since my hysterectomy my BP has been slightly elevated.
I use to have below normal BP...so is this related to the loss of estrogen, or surgery being hard on the body. (There isn't much pain anymore so I don't think that's a factor) I know if I was concerned I should see my PCP...I'm really just more curious about the cause, maybe the lack of activity, I'm actually drinking way less caffine because of the hot flashes...so just curious.
