a blind admnistrator, hard workers go unnoticed

I am so frustrated with my job right now, if i didnt care about the residents as much as i do, i would have quit. My administrator has started a new mentor program, where he picks a person from every floor and chooses them to represent that floor, i.e. the cna's, rules, ideas, etc. i am one of 8 cnas in the assisted living area of my facility, and one of the girls he picked is completely wrong. she leaves residents unattended, the ones you are supposed to keep an eye on, b/c they are a fall risk, everytime i show up for my evening shift there are 3-4 call lights going off, and she is just sitting on her butt, not answering them. she hides in residents' rooms to paint her nails and talk on the phone, and although i see these things, and so do other cnas, no one has done anything, and she totally changes face when the administrator comes around, so he thinks she is perfect.. i also spent 5 hours one night compiling a new CNA book, with new chartings and records inside, and guess who took the credit??? i am not saying i necessarily wanted to be picked for the mentor, but i know there are several of us who take pride in our job, and work really hard, and here she is , doing nothing, and she is getting credit for it... i dont know what the right, mature, professional thing to do is, but several of us are very frustrated, and in a rut! please helP!

At my facility we have some awesome cna's who are ready to walk out the doors. Others show up whenever they want, sit in the resident's rooms, take multiple smoke breaks and are never around when you need them. As an RN I try and acknowledge the ones that are dependable and work hard. When they are having a very busy day on a hard hall, I will answer their call lights, take people to the BR and when I am not passing meds, I get the room trays and deliver them. These CNA's are always there when I need them. I wish we had a form to write for a good job done instead of just one to write them up.

Ditto, ditto, ditto. I'd rather "write up" the good in recognition for a job well done.

Melkel619, it is very frustrating when someone who basically kisses butt when the boss is around and then goofs off the rest of the time is rewarded. Did your administrator get any feedback from staff in general on who they thought would be a good mentor? How did this person manage to take credit for the work you did on a CNA book, have you corrected your administrator on who actually put in the work on this? Has anyone ever reported her behavior, painting nails in a resident's room for instance?

All you have to do is write them up and give it to the DON--only it's for a good deed done rather than wrong doing. That ought to shock the DON. When ever I did a "good" write up on a CNA I always gave the CNA a copy of it. Just print it out in an office memo format

Great post! See we have a NEW DON in our LTC facility, and she wants to start a "mentoring" program, I feel as you do, plus more, first off WHO picks the "mentor" and then, isn't that a degrigation to the rest of the hard workers....just my thoughts..
