hello, i am new here and just wanted to first say hello. i am also a travel nurse and i am on my way to va and i have to take the bkat and i have no idea what it is all about. any suggestions about what i need to study or is it just a basic knowledge enhancment type test or what? please let me know. :) :melody:

Which version of the BKAT are you taking? I recently had to take the Critical Care Nursing version. Not hard, but not too easy either. I hear many hospitals use it as an assessment tool for new hires and also as a part of annual perfomance reviews.

There were 85 questions in all. Its mostly multiple choice but there are a few fill in the blanks. Most of the questions are like the NCLEX: 'The nurse should do all the following EXCEPT...', 'The nurse should do which of the following FIRST...', etc. If you're going to take the critical care or telemetry version make sure you know how to read rhythm strips because you are going to see quite a few ECG questions on there. You need to know the cardiac meds and ABGs. Also review the cardio-respiratory, GI/GU, endocrine, trauma, and neuro material because there is a LOT of that stuff in there.

I wish I take this test rather than "PBDS" that I have to take at the end of my probation period. Some of you probably know about it..

It is much harder than this test.....

I took the critical care BKAT this year. Not too bad. I didn't study at all but have done this for alot of years. I was surprized to see how many questions about Insulin were on the test. Know your normal hemodynamics. I think there were some abg interpretations as well, but again if you have experience, you already know it. It really is just basic ICU knowledge. Some trick questions.

Information please. What is Bkat?

Thanks:rolleyes:
