Bishop State Spring 2015

Hi. I actually reapplied for bishops spring 2015 semester. I was accepted into the spring 2014 Lpn program but withdrew in April. There was a error made on my mailing address because I had got accepted into the fall term since I wasn't expecting to reapply until spring I had to sit out so now I'm playing the waiting game and hopefully I will be accepted for spring. Some advice I can give you is make sure you have all your shots, books,supplies everything because after you get your acceptance letter you only have about two weeks to get everything together. Buy a N-Clex book start practicing now all your fundamentals question will be set in this style. Start going over medical terminology your first test in fundamentals will be a medical terminology vocab test. Study study study!!!!!! That was my issue. Good luck to you!!!

Hi Bettyboop30! Thanks for the advise. That seems to be the worst part about getting into their program is the short amount of time you have to prepare after acceptance. I would hate to use my resources to get shots, take CPR classes, and buy supplies only to not get in for the Spring. I'm already worried about all the studying along with a job and kids. Good luck to you also, you know what to expect so I think you'll do fine.

I've completed the first block of the program & I would highly suggest getting a GOOD care plan book to get familiar with. Care plans played a major part during clinicals for Fundamentals. Make sure you have all of your immunization records completed as soon as possible. I've seen students put out of class & not allowed to return for not having everything done on time. Also make sure you get a solid understanding of how to solve dosage calculations. Before progressing to the next semester, everyone is required to pass a dosage calculation exam with a 90% or higher.

Congrats on making it through the first semester. Thanks for the tips, our orientation is next week. I’ve already got all of the immunizations and paperwork done as I hate waiting to the last minute. Any recommendations for care plan books? I’ll start looking up some practice dosage problems to try and get a head start. I’m so nervous because this program has such a high dropout rate. I really believe since this is something I really want to do, I can keep the determination to make it through.

There are soooo many care plan books out there, but it's really about finding one that is easiest for you to understand. I would suggest maybe going to a bookstore & flipping through a few, maybe read a few reviews online just to get an idea of the format. Elsevier makes a good version. Thanks again for the tips. Orientation was good. I just feel like they gloss over a lot of things that are going to hit people hard in the program. I'm so nervous, their graduation rate for the nursing program is so low. I just wish they would've addressed why so many people don't do well.

Honestly, I think it has a lot to do with students who are not dedicated or are going into the profession "for the money". Nursing school is hard & is unlike any other college curriculum. If you don't have the determination to get it, you're not going to make it. Then you have faculty all with different teaching styles. Some are in-depth, while you basically have to teach yourself with others. The biggest drop happens in the first block. My class started out with about 30 or so & by midterms we were down to half of that. It's a little scary to think about, but it makes you work even harder to be one of the ones who survive!
