BIS Monitoring in ICU

Hello. I have a question. For those working in Intensive Care Do you ever use BIS Monitoring when you have sedated and ventilated patients, and if so, I would like to know what you think from your experience both with and without Neuromuscular Blocking Agents. Thank you all so much. God Bless.

We use BIS with neuromuscular blockers only. If a pt is merely sedated/vented, we titrate based on their RASS score; most often, the goal is 0 to -1.

I love, love, LOVE having it for our paralyzed pts. It's very reassuring to me to have a numerical measurement of the pts' sedation. If they were paralyzed and not on it, I know I'd wonder every time their HR or BP went up, "are they awake and panicking in there??"

We also only use BIS with patients on paralytics. I've never seen it used on a patient who is under the effects of sedation only.
