birth control options for larger women

I was wondering.....

would anyone know about birth control options for overweight women, as I know, differing levels of hormonal meds would be needed, and would probably offer up higher side effects in the higher doses necessary..

and, I dont think its a bad idea to pair condoms with an alternate form of contraception (it'd up the percentage of no pregnancy... I'd think)

does anyone know first hand about IUD's, nuvaring, and the like?

utterly curious...

Regarding IUD's . . . .I'm not sure of the stats and my experience is admittedly anectodal but I have had patients who became pregnant with an IUD. One pt got an infection, fevers of 105 and lost her baby at four months. One had a normal pregnancy and then a D&C after to take the embedded IUD out of her uterus. And one had a CT scan after a tubal when the doc thought he had perf'd her bowel and lo and behold, they saw her IUD freefloating in her abdomen . . .she thought she had "lost" it and accidently gotten pregnant. Well, she lost it through her uterine wall or something because it is somewhere it ain't supposed to be.

Most of the women I've heard of had normal pregnancies with the IUD in place but one had the IUD embedded in her child's forehead.

I know . . .sounds stranger than true.

I have been using the NuvaRing for almost a year now, and I love it! No more forgetting to take the pill.

It was not individually fitted, the Rx just said "Nuva Ring"

I weigh 210#

The subject of my weight never came up and I didn't even think about it until now.

Still, I haven't gotten pregnant and I love the convenience of the Nuva Ring.

on the question about depo. after the first shot, i had two short (3 days) periods. then nothing for 3 years.... but when i went off of it, i had a 157 day period. Hell on earth let me tell you!

think about it CAREFULLY.
