Bioterrorism/Microbiology

Have any of your professors explained HIV, syphilis, and/or H1N1 as bioterrorism from our government to kill off the homosexual, black, and Mexican populations? If so, would you please tell me how you reacted to that information?

Your professor actually stated that HIV, syphilis (LOL?), and H1N1 were specifically made to kill off all the homosexuals, blacks, and Mexicans?

I'm in infectious diseases and I would:

1) Laugh out loud

2) Ask for references

3) Ask if the professor is a conspiracy theorist

4) Notify the dean of that department

Or did the professor say that it has been theorized that HIV was created for the killing off homosexuals (thus not believing it)?

No. She said it is a fact, that out government does not want us to know.

I reacted as you said you would, and was given this source for the HIV claim: Strecker Memorandum http://www.umoja-research.com/strecker_memorandum.htm

So, she only provided on source? How is she a professor? I assume she's got a PhD already?

Over one hundred thousand Americans have already died because they didn't know the truth about AIDS. Approximately 23 million Americans are already infected. More than 1 in 60 babies born in New York City is infected; three in 100 college students in America [one in 33] is infected; one in 20 aliens applying for amnesty is infected, including men, women and children . . . .

Oh man, lol. This is great. People die of AIDS because they don't know the truth. This ranks up as stupid as the people with HIV believing that it doesn't lead to AIDS and other secondary complications.

You need to report her to the dean of the department. Definitely not her place to involve her students in her political craziness.

Yes, I did. Fortunately I voice recorded the class and was able to share that, too.

This is one of a gazillion things that are wrong with this class. I wanted to transfer out to another class but she is the only one teaching this semester. I really don't like dropping classes, it puts me behind, but I may have to in this situation and pick it back up next semester.

Wow. I would react the same way! Definitely send that link on to the Dean. It's disturbing to think that an educator is passing that information on AND using a website for reference that looks like something I put together in high school in the mid 90's. I mean... not the content, but the layout. lol.

Although, here's a link to a Tuskeegee Study done on Syphilis .... she may have been referring to this. I don't know of anything similar happening with HIV or H1N1, though.

No, she does not have a PhD, and is the only one in the dept. that doesn't. Yes, she only gave one source, the whole while denying being a conspiracy theorist.

Right, I know about the Tuskeegee study. She took it to extreme lengths, however, by saying it was to limit the smart black men coming from Tuskeegee (inventors, etc.)

Thank you guys so much for chiming in. I was beginning to wonder if I was nuts.

Is she a student herself, in the process of getting a PhD? If not, that's really strange they would have someone teach a class with just a Masters.

Such a shame that she's in the sciences and an idiot.

You're definitely not crazy. I hope most of your classmates have enough common sense to recognize that she's gone off the deep end! I really cringe to think that she's molding the minds of future health care workers and scientists.
