Biology and A&P 1&2

I am so confused! My nursing advisor is out for the next month, however, I am going to call today to see what I can find out, but I am wondering is Biology and A&P the same?? I see everyone talking about how hard A&P is, but it's not listed as A&P in my course outline. The college that I was thinking about attending had A&P, but the one that I went with does not have it listed. I see that some say it's a really hard class so I want to be prepared. My advisor told me a few weeks ago that biology is very hard. The class starts out with 80 and by the time the the semester is finished about 40 are left. So she told me that since it's been 14 years since I have taken high school biology that I should do an intro to biology. She said that most who do this do very well in the main biology course. This fall of 09 I will take the intro to biology and then she said in the spring of 2010 I will go straight into the real biology class since it's still fresh in my head. But as I sit here and think about it where is A&P 1&2? So is this the same?

It shouldn't be the same class. I know at my college we have:

BIO 111 - Intro Biology

BIO 168 - Anatomy & Physiology I

BIO 169 - Anatomy & Physiology II

Biology is a general field of study and is typically a department at the school which offers many different classes.

Anatomy and physiology are biology classes but they're not "biology" per se. Generally when people speak of taking "biology" they're referring to an Intro to Biology class which is a broad survey of this huge scientific field.

For nursing school you will need to take anatomy and physiology specifically (either as separate classes or as a combined class).

Have a look at the course descriptions in the catalog.

OK, I just got off the phone with the school and I am nervous! She said that Biological Structure and Functions is their A&P 1&2 class combined, but they do not call it A&P which is why I was confused! It's for the whole semester and is 5 credit hours. How hard is this going to be? I am taking the intro to bio. this fall and then going into their Biological Structure and Functions in the spring of 2010. Is this going to be harder since it is combined?

What I meant by "real" is this is the class that I need for the nursing prereqs because the intro to Bio. does not count. I guess that looked kind of funny being that no class if fake! LOL!!

lol! after I read it again, I figured that the advisor was probably talking about a similar class that we have that is before 111 that is 110 called principles of biology. actually I was wrong about our 111, it is actually general biology. I really wish they would combine our A & PI & II but I have heard that it is a little harder because they are trying to cram so much info into one semester. I would still take it though just to get them out of the way faster. I hate the waiting game, I just want to get into nursing school.;)

Being a bit of a worrier myself as well as being a planner, I would check with the nursing schools you're interested in and verify that this structure and function class meets their requirements. The reason I say that is because the typical biology major takes an anatomy class and a physiology class: Comparative anatomy and animal physiology. Neither of these are accepted at any of the schools I looked at... you must take Human Anatomy and Human Physiology.

I'd be very careful so as to avoid any unpleasant surprises down the road.
