So I'm planning or hoping to take AP1 during Summer 1, and then AP2 durring Summer 2 courses. I know these courses are very condensed since they are only 8 weeks long. Has anyone else done this? And advice, or thoughts I can get are greatly appreciated. My advisor is not recommending I do this, but my goal is to have all the necessary classes completed so I can apply to the TCC nursing program next January.

I took Intro A&P this past summer. It was 7 weeks long and very difficult. I pulled off an A, but that was mainly because the professor had this funky curve system that worked very much to my benefit. I likely would have been a low B or high C without it.
If you are going to do this, go into it knowing you are going to have to put a LOT of study time into it. You're getting all the information of a regular semester in HALF the time. Be prepared to read and re-read chapters... and that's just to pass the class. You would have to have a knack for science for everything to really stick with you after the class is over.
It has only been a few months for me and I am already finding I have to go back and look stuff up that comes up in my nursing classes.
It is doable, but I wouldn't suggest it. Of course, if you do... maybe don't take any other classes with them so you can devote your study time to the A&P classes.
ZiggysGal, are you currently in nursing school? If so what school are you attending?

I think you can take A&P in the summer, but i think your advisor is right. I have a friend who take both AP 1&2 in the summer. She did not work, only take AP1 for summer 1, AP2 for summer 2. You wont have a life, everything just anatomy term... They only have 8 weeks, intense material, everything is fast. So be prepared for yourself, you can get an A if you try hard, and professor is important too. If you got an easy professor, it helps.
However, think about this, what the knowledge you get after you finish this class?, can it prepared you for nursing school?. My favorite AP professor did not recommend me to do this. So it's just your choice. Good luck.
I am in the Vocational Nursing program through Victoria College. I chose to take my A&P course early because I knew it would be a lot of information to learn, combined with everything else I was facing this semester. What I did not realize was that it is very hard to cram all of that information into 7 weeks! If you're committed to it, though, you can do it. It's not impossible, just difficult.
vivian8572 thanks for the info, i really appreciate it. what makes me feel confident about doing this is i am also an ma. so i have already been through the ap classes. i think this would pretty much just be a refresher course. hopefully! i did some practice quizzes the other day to test my knowledge, and did very well. i just really want to be able to apply to the nursing program next january, and this is the only way i will be able to do it. it's a very hard decision.
you will have an advantage since you are familiar with the information. just don't rely on that to carry you. you can do it, as long as you are committed to it! :) good luck!
