BIO 156 accelerated 8 week course

Published

Hello, I'm going to sign up for BIO156 at Rio for the 8 week session that starts on Oct 25th. Can anyone recommend which instructors to take and to avoid at all costs? Also are there any other campuses in Maricopa that offer an 8 week accelerated course? Please private message me if anyone has feedback on instructors @ RIO/BIO156.

thx

I am also taking this course now online at Rio Salado. What do you think so far? The only thing that worries me is the final and midterm. I don't really know what to expect with those. I turned in my first essay, and did really well.

I took this course Summer 08 and it was a pain. If you have the time and definitely have to get it done in 8 weeks then go for it. But it is no joke. My teacher had the personality of a wet mop but he wasn't too tough. The midterm and final are pretty rough as you have 80 multiple choice(I think) and 4 essay questions which can come from any of the chapters. I survived but vowed to never take an accelerated science class again. Even the lady at Rio in registration said that she tells students to never take acc. science classes unless there really aren't any other options. I have taken tons of online courses at Rio, completed my already started AA degree and am now graduating from ASU in December. I also took BIO 201 this summer, 16 weeks though. My instructor was awesome, if you are taking this class in the future I can try and find his name. He actually had a sense of humor which seems to be few and far between with science profs. Good luck!

Yes, I agree. I took my midterm today and did horrible. I have done well on my assignments and quizzes. The midterm was tough! Good luck to you.

I'm also in the 8 week accelerated BIO 156 that started last week. I've gotten A's on my first lab, essay, and quiz. I hold a 4-year engineering degree, so I have many science classes under my belt, but no biology. I am finding that the BIO 156 is a retread of my LPN coursework, so I've already done the studying. I also recently took CHM130 accelerated at Rio and scored an A - barely (91%). CHM wasn't as easy as the BIO is shaping up to be. I wish I took more BIO and CHM my first time through college so I could avoid it this time. :)

I'm in the class now. I don't have a science background, so the midterm is scaring me. I took BIO classes, but it was about 8 years ago. I am afraid of failing the midterm. I have done well on all my other assignments, but the midterm covers a lot of information. Does anyone have any tips to offer?

Basically, you need to re-read the all the chapters you have already studied and review all the essay questions!!

There will be four on the test and dont forget the application paragraph.
