Binghamton Applicants- BAT Fall 2013

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi all,

I just submitted my application to Binghamton for the BAT program for next fall. Didn't see a discussion board yet so figured I would start one. Any other applicants out there?

Hi VroomVroom, that's good to hear! At least something is updating there! It's a good sign!!

Bear0512, did they tell you roughly how many spots are left there?

I am crossing my fingers for all of us!!

They didn't say anything about the amount of spots. I was accepted to another program so I called to see if they had any news before I send my deposit to the other school. They said that all BAT decisions should be released by the end of this week. I'm not sure how much I trust them anymore, but keeping my fingers crossed anyway!

Ok thanks for the info, and congrats for getting accepted by another program!!:D

I know, I even just stopped calling them, just because of their credibility...I am really hoping that I can be accepted so that I can rest assure...

Does the deposit due exactly on April 1? If yes, then they seriously need to be sending out the decisions by the end of this week or the beginning of the next for people to make their mind up...

I am waiting for NYU's as well... don't know which one comes first...!! so frustrating but hang in there!!

Congrats Bear 0512! At least you have a back up plan, as do you Ruminnie88. I'll have to go back to the drawing board if this doesn't pan out.

It's just frustrating applying to all these different programs since each one inevitably requires a prerequisite that another program doesn't need. I could end up taking a few courses and wasting a few thousand dollars for nothing.

Let's all hope for the best! :)

Totally agree with you, if I go to NYU for nursing, then I will have to take one semester of Developmental Psychology first for prerequisite...I took child development instead at my college, Bing said ok to me, but NYU said this does not count toward the Developmental Psychology that has to include the whole life span of a human being..So..it is indeed frustrating..!!

But lets see what will happen!!Hoping and praying...!!;) Again, good luck for all of us!!

One thing you can do to lower the costs of these prerequisite course requirements is to "CLEP it"!

If you can discipline yourself to study on your own, you can take a College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exam for Human Growth and Development and earn college credit without having to actually sit in a class for a semester. You just study on your own, and when you feel you've mastered the content, you find a testing center and register for an exam. It could save you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars.

You should check to see if NYU accepts CLEP credit. It's a great way to fulfill those pesky prerequisites, but the only drawback is it doesn't count in your GPA. So if you need to bump up your grade, you might want to just take a regular class instead.

Here's the link if you want to check out some options. They have quite a few subjects available.

Hi all!

First of all Congrats to everyone who has been admitted! I'm a prospective student looking to apply after I finish my remaining pre-reqs this summer.

Would any of you be so kind to share your stats in terms of your GPA, degree you were awarded in undergrad, and whether you had any prior health related experience prior to applying?

The reason why I'm asking and posting on this thread is because I would like to have a sense what Bing is looking for.

I have a 3.8 GPA and received my B.S. in Psychology. I've been working as a paralegal for the last two years and although my grades seem ok..I'm afraid I won't be at par with future applicants who graduated with science degrees and had health/ science related work experiences.

Any insight would truly truly be appreciated! Please PM me or post here if you can!

Again CONGRATS to everyone who has been accepted either at Bing or any other accelerated program!

Thanks in advance!!

Thank you VroomVroom, that is a good thing to know, I didn't know it earlier. But, I think I would need to bump up my GPA a little..:( Hope I could get accepted at the first place..! > _

It is almost the end of this week... still haven't heard anything yet so far.. I am soo worried..Do they have a deadline for the transfer rolling basis? The traditional freshman will hear back by April 1st, what about the transfers? They only say transfers are on a rolling basis, but when is the end date?

So frustrating....

Is anyone definately going to Binghamton?

Anyone that does not live in the area? I currently live in NYC and would be relocating.

What have you heard about the program? I also got into Stony Brook and trying to make

the best decision. It's so hard!

Hi ZellRN,

I was accepted into the BAT program and visiting the campus next weekend.

How was your experience in the program? Are you from the area? I live in NYC and looking to relocate to Atlanta after graduation.

How was the job search? Are people outside the area familiar with the program?

If possible, could you email me back at [email protected]??

Thanks!

And do you know anyone I could speak to that's currently in the program?

Congrats to everyone that got accepted! I just thought I would throw in my two cents...

I graduated Binghamton's BAT program last year (which feels like an eternity ago). I was reading though this thread and I have to say I agree 100% with what midwifetobe said about the program. One thing I will add is get to know your classmates, they are the ONLY ppl that will know exactly what you are going through...like midwifetobe said it is a very intense year, I don't think I would've made it through without having my classmates to lean on.

Even though there were some things I hated about the program at the time, Binghamton's reputation held up pretty well when searching for a job and I believe it is one of the reasons I landed interviews and am now happily employed :)

Good luck everyone! And I will try to answer your questions

Just some new updates here.

I have called the Nursing Department about the application status today. The lady told me that all the rejected mails should be sending out around this week. If you hear nothing then it is good news. And after April 1st when all the freshman are notified of their fate, the admissions will then check to see how many people drop off and therefore how many spots are left there for the transfers. Whoever is still waiting for a response will be notified in April, maybe around the mid of April...But I cannot guarantee that there will be no rejected mails coming in April...Last year's thread had students rejected in April and some accepted as transfers around or on April 21st...There are still hopes!

Hang in there!
