which is better for me: AAS, accelerated BSN, BSN with exceptions???

Published

Hi. I'm new on here and to the nursing world. I recently have decided that I wanted to get a second degree in Nursing. This fall semester I will be taking my last class to graduate with a BA in General Studies. I'm delving into different programs and different schools to find the best fit for me. The accelerated BSN program would be the best fit so that on my transcript it would show that I had a double major. With a BSN I could continue into a masters with no problem. The only school in the Nashville area with an Accelerated BSN program is rediculously expensive and I would need to take about 6 courses just to complete their pre-reqs. The other options are TSU which I've heard is fantastic for nursing. I would already be admitted into the school since that is where I'm taking my last BA class, but they only have a BSN program. All schools can make exceptions and so I'm wondering if I could "transfer" in to the junior year which starts all the actual nursing classes. Other option, maybe... could I even get just an AAS since I already have a bachelor's? I know that whether you have an AAS or BSN you have to take your boards to become an RN. I just want to know the quickest, smartest route to take to get to the RN level. Again I have (or will have - in Dec) a BA. Any recommendations or help from anyone would be appreciated. Does anyone think online would be an option??? Thanks for reading... and hopefully responding :)

I would have to say that it would depend on your situation. Honestly it would take you just ask long to complete the Bachelors as it would to complete the associates. The pre-requistes are very similar. Look at the time it would take to complete the degree as well as the opportunities you would be provided once you graduated. Usually individuals with degrees in other fields are able to leverage this knowledge in nursing and increase their earning potential.

To the OP:

What route did you decide to take? I am a graduate of TSU and wanting to go back and obtain a nursing degree. I am researching and applying to various programs in the area.
