I'm a pre-nursing student and I'm volunteering at a hospital this summer. The volunteer coordinator asked if I have any particular unit in mind. Does anyone have any insight as to what hospital unit will give me the most opportunity to work with the nurses? Or any units to stay away from? Thanks! Any opinions or advice will help.

If I were you, if you have the options to pick a particular unit. I would rotate through as many different units as possible and that way you can get a sense of feeling of different roles of nurses in each department.

I suppose my response will go against the grain, but you will not really be working 'with the nurses' as a volunteer due to liability concerns. Therefore, if given a choice, select any unit or floor that potentially interests you and go from there.
