Hi Everyone,
Just wondering if there are any MA nurses that could please help me out?
I have recently moved to Cambridge, MA after moving from Australia. I am an RN, and have obtained my MA nursing license.
I was thinking about giving contract work a go. Could anyone recommend a good recruiter to use for MA? I already have an apartment and health benefits, so I don't need those.
I worked as an RN for two years in Australia on Plastics, Neuro and General Surgical wards. So my preference would be to work on a surgical ward.
Would you recommend contract work to someone with only 2 years experience? Or should I try and get a permanent position somewhere?
I appreciate your help.
Regards.

Generally, we lump your experience into "medsurg" for medical surgical units or floors (we never say wards). Medsurg is very slow for contracts and with no US experience, it will be hard to get travel contracts. There is also a Massachusetts law regarding staffing agencies using Massachusetts based nurses with lower bill rates (not sure how this works in practice, but I've seen the law). Last bit of relevant info, Massachusetts is a heavy union state and staff nurses are well paid, upwards of $70 an hour with 20 years of experience. I would recommend a staff job as it is unlikely that you will make as much on a contract. If you do pursue a travel contract, I might suggest Sagent, a good agency with a lot of jobs in the NE. You can also try Cross Country Travcorp as half of that name originated in Massachusetts. In any case, they will have more direct information about how employable you are.
