Best stethoscopes to use w/behind the ear hearing aids?

Published

I am a 43 year old female RN w/familial high frequency hearing loss. I work in an acute care setting. There are certain sounds, particularly in my work environment, that I cannot hear or have trouble with so I have decided it's time to invest in hearing aids.

I was really excited to trial the Lyric hearing aids, but found that I could not tolerate my stethoscope ear pieces in my ears with them in place. I was told by my audiologist that I would then require bilateral BTE hearing aids for my particular hearing loss. I have been trying out "top of the line" $6500/pair Oticon hearing aids. I generally like them, but am having trouble with my stethoscope, a Littman Cardiology II. I have been removing the hearing aids to do my assessments, but I am afraid I will lose them and that's also a hassle.

Can anyone suggest a good stethoscope for use w/BTE hearing aids? Anything you tried that really didn't work?

Thank you.

Hi!

I just found this from one post here,check on it.http://www.amphl.org/stethoscopes.php

Might be of help by reading.

Good luck!

I have the same issue- I use BTE hearing aids and have to take them out every time I want to use my stethoscope. I have discussed this with my audiologist and so far I haven't found a viable alternative that works with my type of loss. It's inconvenient, but still worthwhile, nonetheless. I'm an unemployed new grad, but when I was in nursing school I just tucked them in a deep pocket in my scrubs when I wasn't wearing them. I do worry about losing them though, since they are sooo expensive. I don't even know if this exists, but scrubs with a zippered pocket would be very helpful. If you find a better solution please post it! Good luck!

Hi! I'm just starting nursing school and I have BTE hearing aids and am nervous about using the stethoscope. I bought an amplified electronic stethoscope because I have found that I have to take the hearing aids out when I use the stethoscope. I'm kinda freaking out so it was reassuring to find these posts. It looks like these are old posts but I was wondering how you guys are doing now and how you deal with the hearing aids and stethoscope. Also how do you deal with keeping your hearing aids clean? Thanks!!

Hello.... I might need to get a hearing aid soon.... what does BTE stand for? Is that the brand name?? How do you like it??

BTE = Behind The Ear.

I take mine out when I am in a room for a few hours (I work in a Burn ICU and the inidividual rooms are cranked up to 90 degrees F and boy do I perspire) so I take them both out and place them in a sealable bag that came with them.

I am hoping to get the okay to be able to use my own amplified stethoscope in the BICU - just waiting for the audiologist to write a letter explaining to ID that I need them. Shouldn't be a problem as I will clean them before I enter the room and again when I leave at the end of my shift.

Good luck
