I will be doing clinicals in January. I have to purchase black or white shoes. They don't have to be solid as a little bit of color is allowed as long as the main color is black or white. What are your recommendations of a comfortable shoe? I've heard great things about Danskos but they are quite pricey. I'm willing to spend the money for comfort (and maybe even style ).

Choice of shoes is highly, highly individual. Case in point, my daughter (also and RN) LOVES her Danskos. I loathe them. I LOVE my New Balance running shoes for work. She would be in tears wearing them. Think about which pair of shoes in your closet you could right now wear for 12 hours on your feet. Buy something similar.

I like the danskos but I am in love with alegria now. They are flatter and they have clogs and clog-like styles with backs. The downside is that they are not waterproof/splash proof like my Danskos are so if I get into a trauma, there is a good chance the shoes will have to be pitched like tennis shoes are.
Side note, a lot of places do not regulate tennis shoes like nursing schools make it sound like.
