Best Job to Work While Getting my RN?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi, I'm going to be starting pre-nursing courses in the summer and working towards my RN. I'll be taking classes full time, but I need to work while in school. I'll need a job, either full or part time, where I can bring home around $1200/month (about $300/week). I'm thinking CNA, or trying to get a nanny or preschool teaching job? My husband would prefer that I do something like waiting tables or retail, but I really want to start getting some patient care experience ASAP. What do you guys recommend? What types of jobs are you working while in school? Thanks!

An entry level part-time job I applied for last fall (I didn't get it) was a Patient Transporter at our local hospital. I don't know how much it would have paid, but they had 3-11 pm shifts that would have worked for me. A Patient Transporter takes patients via wheel chair or gurney back and forth from their rooms to x-ray, lab, etc. I have also applied at at LTC facility for an entry level job to help the residents with their "activities of daily living" (dressing, grooming). The position did not require a CNA license. Haven't heard back from that one, either! I am always checking Craigslist for anything entry level in the medical field (like companion needs for elderly home bound patients). For now I work at Target, and it is nice because the hours are very flexible, but I could never make $300/week there, even full time because the pay is under $8/hour. I do make $55/week donating plasma. I go twice a week, each appointment takes about a hour. The closes CNA course near me is $1,800 so I have chosen not to take it.
