Best hospital to work at in the Dallas area?

Hi All!

I'm looking to move to Texas from Oregon for a change in scenery (and hopefully better job prospects). It'll be just me and my dog so I'm wondering what the best/safest place to live is and also the best hospital to work at? I'm looking for a place that supports new nurses and where the nurses dont' "eat their own". Also, is there anything in particular that hospitals in Texas are looking for that might not be on the radar here in Oregon?

Good Luck with that. I would say make sure you have a job first before moving. Texans are having a hard enough time trying to find jobs as a new graduate ESPECIALLY in DFW. New RN jobs there are few and far between.

Thank you Yolorn, I didn't realize that it's difficult down there. Everybody up here says its the place to go since its cheap to live and more jobs.

The people saying that up there are about five years behind the times. There are a TON of nursing schools in Texas. Yes, the cost of homes are cheaper here and we have no income tax, but our sales tax is through the roof and property taxes are insanely high.

The average RN new grad in Texas cannot get a toe in the door for a hospital position without some kind of internal contact there. The average of applicants to new graduate positions is 300:1 right now ....meaning for every one job opening, there are 300 or so applicants hoping for a shot at it.

The places that there remain jobs for new nurses in Texas are in areas along the Texas/Mexico border and in the extreme rural areas (think more than 1.5 hours from a major city). DFW, Houston and Austin are a wasteland if you dont' have contacts here. Definitely don't move here without a job lined up first.
