best hospital in Portland

It seems there are many different hospitals in Portland. What are some of the better places to work? What are the best paying? Which ones are level one trauma and experience the highest acuity? And finally, is it feasible to commute from the Vancouver area? Thanks!

I have worked for 3 of hospital systems in Portland, and in everyone I have had co workers from Vancouver. There are only 2 trauma hospitals in Portland; OHSU and Emmanuel. Can't say which is the best as I still work for 2 of the larger hospital systems. One pays better and the other has better benefits. One hospital I worked for as a CNA and it was a smaller hospital, I have loved working at each one of them, not sure if it was the hospital system or the departments I am in. As a CNA I was in the ED as a RN I am in pediatrics which I think does make a difference. One place is a teaching hospital and that is where most of my frustrations lie with having to deal with new residents who are scared to write orders. The pay for the larger systems are about the same

I work at Providence Portland and really enjoy working there. As far as pay for the metro hospitals, it seems to be all about the same. Some are unionized and pay a little higher but then you have to pay union dues so I think ultimately its a wash. I have plenty of co workers that commute from Vancouver and they dont seem to mind since its only 3 times a week (which includes every other weekend and there is no traffic on the weekends). I think you'll enjoy working in Portland!
