Bergen CC Fall 2013 Program

U.S.A. New Jersey

Hey guys,

I saw that there was no post for our group so I decided to create on. How is everyone doing with their Hesi? Also, is someone who is accepted into their program declines admission, do they open up a spot for someone else?

Start your health forms now! They get very strict if you are not current with immunizations they will ask you to leave class- even lecture. Like you all I will be studying all summer so feel free to ask anything you come across!

Hii!! Okay my number one question is what I should be studying prior to starting the program.. I would appreciate yor advice:)

I would get a hold of the Fundamentals for Success book by Vitale- and the incredibly easy fundamentals book- review your a&p generally broadly bc they do refer and review it quickly but you can get ahead of the game if you know it. The only thing to prepare in terms of summer prep for pharm is you need to take a pharm dosage calc exam like the second week so if you wanted to practice doing some math questions and start relearning your hesi conversions (1kg=2.2lbs) you need them.. Here's a link for a pharm site the exam is 10 questions the teacher goes over everything (this would be getting a major head start) totally optional since the first 3 pharm classes are dedicated to teaching all

Of this. You get three chances to take the test and must get an 80 or above- no calculators allowed. After that pharm calc exam (doesn't count in grade but need to pass it to pass level 1 and administer meds) there is no more math! Promise! Here's the link http://www.siue.edu/nursing/slchs/pdf/drug_calculation_tutorial_091407.pdf

Besides that I would get familiar with all the medical terminology (should in my opinion have been a prerequisite) but its not and so many people outside the medical field were constantly looking up -endo -hypo -hyper do some quizlet or online flash cards to learn hyper is too much hypo is too little or decreased. Trutmhfully if you go on some apps on the iPhone or online practice nclex you can find a whole bunch of words to look up keep a list and look them all up it will be very helpful. Especially if your not in the medical field... If you want to memorize anything memorize your pharm formulas... And the normal vitals bp 120/80 hr 60-90bpm resp 12-20 bpm temp 98.6 F (37 C) pain is the "5th vital sign" we use a 0-10 scale 0 no pain 10 worst pain a normal vital would be 0 pain (they say in the text 0-2) is norm.

Medical terminology, how to answer nursing questions, why your answer wasn't right is critical! Read the rationales! You learn double!

Vitale also makes another book called Test Success it is key for all levels of nursing so get your hands on that one too.

You guys are going to be awesome I love the enthusiasm. It's the most necessary thing!

Kaitlyn you are amazing!!!!! Thank you for such a detailed answer!!

No problem! Anytime!

Hii everyone! Im a little confused about obtaining Malpractice insurence. Did anyone else get that email that health insurance does not need to be purchased because of the new law and no determinations have been made?

You need to purchase through NSO log onto their website nso.com and click at the top of the screen professional - than click student nurse- enter your info- should be about 37 dollars you can print out your insurance card right there I also had them send me a copy as well than go make 20 copies of it! It lasts one year active two days after you purchase

Health insurance and are totally different things. Malpractice insurance protects you, the school, your clinical instructor, the patients, and the hospital you are working at. Health insurance deals with financing for your personal health care needs prescriptions, treatments, imaging, doctor visits. Two different things. Not sure about the new health insurance laws you are speaking about I did not receive any information on that. But I do know I have to replace my malpractice in November- so as far as I know as a level 2 student now malpractice is required by all levels 1-4

okay that makes alot more sense thank you !!!

kaitlynelisabeth: Which nclex prep book did you find most helpful? Or would you recommend buying more than one brand??

Truthfully we started doing nclex questions as a way to study for exams in the first few weeks- 'of successful the questions on exams in level one are not anywhere close to the nclex questions. You could grab one book I have Hogan's Fundamental Reviews and Rationales- his whole series is amazing- that's the books your looking for by the way if you can answer the questions in vitale'a fundamentals for success and test taking success books you will pass your exams- truthfully don't think it is worth it we stopped practicing nclex questions after our 2nd week because they were nothing like or exams or even helpful for us. You can't answer the nclex questions because you don't know enough or you know too much focus on getting the hogans reviews and rationales series and between hogan, Vitale's two books, incredibly easy fundamentals, and the textbook with the CD for FAdavis you will be in awesome shape.

This might be silly, but...

anybody else excited for Orientation next week? ;)
