I am about to graduate and look for a job. Look for a hospital that has the best benefits. I am now hearing different terms that aren't familiar to me such as getting vested by an hopital, a 5/10 vesting time e.t.c. please tell me thing to look for in choosing where to go.

I know that tuition re-enbursment is one, nurse-patient ration is another, and length of orientation. PLEASE KINDLY HEAR MY CRY:cry: FOR HELP

I'm very interested in what to look for also. I'm hitting the 40 mark soon and have a child with a pretty severe heart defect, so helath bennies are very important. Also, do I need to work a 40hr week to qualify for benefits? Facilities don't seem to be to open about what they offer until they are offerring a job. I hate to waste my time as well as HR. Any advice?

:bow:I live in washington state and have been able to look up the employee agreements for all the major hospitals and the washington states nurses association. If your hospitals are unionized, you should be able to get all this information online. godbless the internet!!!

Here in NH there are very few unions in any profession. I was reminded that it looked bad to discuss salary and benefits in first interview unless brought up or you also meet with HR. Some places actually mark you down a notch on the desirability list if you do this!

Many benefits are breifed on websites of facilities.

I would look for health benefits, vesting time (the time it takes for you to get 100% of your matched retirement), paid time off, shift diffs, on call pay, education benefits, and any sign on bonuses.

Benefits have a huge range up here and it is not just about salary anymore. I am also older and looking for a good retirement savings package for sure.

OH I forgot, AD&D, Short term disability, Long term disability, life insurance and stuff like that.

Good luck to everyone hitting the pavement!
