Hi, i start my first semester of college this fall, and I'm really thinking of becoming a nurse. But, I'm horrible at math and science. Is this going to be a big issue?

Although math and science are two of my weakest subjects, I have been a nurse for almost 10 years. You have two choices...

1. You can be proactive and start buckling down now to ensure you become proficient in the subjects in which you struggle, or...

2. You can take an alternate path into the nursing profession that does not require as much math and science.

Good luck to you!

Math and science courses are plentiful in the RN program and even moreso in the Bachelors programs, but if you're willing to be tutered, there are many nurses who will be more than happy to help. Just PM me, as I am always willing to lend an ear, and a hand. For some, including me, Math and Sciences were the subjects I aced, but I know that we all have different strengths and weaknesses.

Turning your question around: You're a critically ill patient. Several body systems are in failure, and you are depending on the bedside nurse to care for you, understand what is wrong with each body system, and accurately measure and administer life-saving medications to you.

Are math and science "a big issue" to YOU?

Now, having said that- just because you're not good at math and science NOW does not mean you will always be bad at them UNLESS YOU CHOOSE TO BE. Want to get 'good' at math and science? Start today, study your butt off and ......just do it!
