I have heard a rumor, that if by the year 2015, you do not obtain your masters degree of nursing, and you want to become a Nurse Practitioner (A.R.N.P), you will have to obtain a Doctorate of Nursing, in the state of Florida. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, where can I find this information.

I recently attended an nursing education fair at my job and I had an in depth conversation with one of the admission coordinators from FIU. She told me that they were in the process of retracking their curriculum so those wishing to pursue an ARNP would basically bypass a Masters and go straight into a program designed to offer a DNP. She mentioned something about it becoming a requirement in Florida but I didn't really clarify.

Some of the academic nursing organizations are pushing this, but a lot of different groups, including the state BONs, would have to jump on the bandwagon in order for it to become a requirement. So far, it is just a proposal.
