Becoming an NP w/out BSN??

Published

Hi all, I just wanted to get some opinions & reassurance about my situation. I have a BS in psych & will be completing a diploma in nursing soon. After that I will be heading straight for my WHNP or PNP. :D

Just a bit of background info:

I have already investigated all my options inside & out. Also, I have already attended an accelerated program (in 17K debt for 1semester/came out on medical emergency). I was accepted back into another accelerated program & turned them down because of already accrued debt (17K). I can't get back in 70K debt for my BSN+living/travel expense. My diploma program is FREE (work commitement) only 4months longer than accelerated program & best rep in my area & best employer yada yada. Essentially, to get my NP will be the same amount of time whether i did accelerated/diploma (only 4months difference)

So because I already have BS I can apply directly to MSN w/only 2bridge courses at a high ranked graduate school. Tuition = 25K

Do you guys think this will be a good investment for me?? Has anyone else done this??? Im going to be avoiding 100K for BSN & just have 25K for MSN & no BSN. I don't think in my area (Virginia) not having BSN is going to hinder me.

Any input is appreciated

I would highly recommend checking out Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing. They offer both bridge programs and direct entry MSN.

The program is distance with several trips required to the school which is located in Hyden, KY.

I can't say enough about the school. I am a current student and after searching many graduate programs, I selected this one. The cost is very, very reasonable but that aside, the family community that Frontier provides is wonderful.

The website if you are interested is

Oh and one of the things several students mentioned while I was there was the fact that you actually get a real person when you call, not passed from one recording to another. The school is steeped in tradition and was started by Mary Breckenridge.

Best of luck in whatever you decide.
