Things you would LOVE to say to your nursing instructors...
Oh yeah & one more: Please stop reading us notes directly from the powerpoint. Add a little spice to it give a lil story here and there. Whats the point of coming to class just to sit and look at a powerpoint for 4 hours especially when its the exact one you post on blackboard. Your putting me to sleep:zzzzz. In that case I could download it & teach myself at home. Boy oh boy if we didn't have an attendance policy Id probably take some of those days off:yawn: Also when we have an exam @ 8 on monday morning & then lecture for the rest of the day until 4 sitting in the same seat all day please realize that our brains are FRIED from studying all weekend & we don't really want to be there after the test nor have we actually comprehended the new material that we were suppose to study that will be covered that day (some of us haven't even looked at it). We all look like zombies & you know we are not really interested in what you saying (too busy wondering what we got on the test) so stop asking questions on the new material while the crickets chirp in the room. Just get on with the lecture. We will go home that night & catch up on the reading:stone

Things you would LOVE to say to your nursing instructors...
To my OB Instructor: Pleeeeeeeeaaaasssssee put the plastic baby down during lecture. Watching you stand in front of class holding a swaddled plastic baby for 3 hours while you lecture from a powerpoint kills me:uhoh3: especially when your not using it to show an assessment & we are not in skills lab. ITS NOT A REAL BABY!!! I still love ya though:bugeyes: To my Peds Instructor: Don't ever stand behind the podium (spelling?) during lecture. Your only 4 feet tall & you disappear behind that thing. It cracks me up To all the Instructors: Can you please not give us practice NCLEX questions from 1994 & when we review them the answers back then are not the same answers that they would be today. You can't convince me that the NCLEX has not changed in 14years when you tell us some of the answers are different today:nono: C'mon can we at least get some questions from 2000. Good thing I got my own up to date NCLEX book!

What unit to work in???
Hi Guys! I just finished my first semester in my RN program & am thinking about getting a position as a Care Partner (CNA, patient care tech) at one of the local hospitals. My question is which unit do you guys recommend working in while in school? ICU, Med/Surg, or Cardiac stepdown I want to be in a unit that enables me to utilize the skills I've learned but not have me running around like a chicken with its head cut off & those are the only available units right now. Thanks for any input!

Eww white uniforms??
We wear all white uniforms. White polo tops with white scrub pants & white shoes, socks, & undergarments! However, we also wear navy blue cobblers to break the all white. We look like cafeteria ladies:lol2: Its not bad though we concentrate on the stress of clinical 2much to worry about our uniforms! I haven't gotten a stain yet though but when I do Ill be sure to have some peroxide near. Thanks for the tip!

Any Non-BSN RNs doing NP w/ 6mth experience ?
Hi :spin: I'm a diploma nursing student with a BS in psych. I came straight out of college & into nursing so Im not really a career changer. When I get my RN in may 09 (hopefully) i intend to work for 6months as an RN before going straight into my masters. The school I will apply for lets me go straight into a NP specialty like traditional entry. I won't be considered a bridge student because I already have a degree so there are no bridge prereqs; except (Community Health Nursing & Leadership and Management in Health Care) included in semester 1. I am wondering if anyone else has taken this route or something similar & how it worked out for them? Will 6months experience be enough or do I really need the 1year experience that everyone recommends?? Thanks for any input/advice:spin:

Kill 2birds w/1 stone 4 CRNA school
I was wondering how beneficial it would be for me to get my 1 year ICU experience while completing a 1year RN-BS program for CRNA school. I hear your suppose to do med/surg coming straight out of NS. However, if I want to go into CRNA school right away after completing my BSN & the year of ICU experience can be completed while getting the BSN wouldn't it be beneficial to kill two birds with one stone & continue on to CRNA school. Another question, do you think I would be a qualifying candidate with a BS in psych, RN (diploma), BSN, great GPA, good GREs, 1year CNA ICU experience, 1 year ICU RN experience plus resume with various volunteer experiences, & nursing internships from top graduate institutions? I know it varies with admissions commitees but I just want some opinions What do you guys think? Thanks for comments!

What to expect in Sentara RN Program?
Capribry, Im totally going to keep my textbook drug guide now. I have one from a previous nursing program I was in I was going to sell. Its a drug info book for advanced practice nursing. Do you think I should also keep my manual of laboratory & diagnostics tests book? One more question off topic I noticed you said I think in an old post that you went to ODU. Are you thinking about going into there RN/BSN/MSN program when you finish Sentara & take a break of course? Do you know anybody that has done their program? I have a BS in psych & I was thinking about ODU or VCU RN-MSN program. Im hoping I can skip the BSN.

What to expect in Sentara RN Program?
Hi nursn4me, To answer your question about the Sentara distance learning program we have 20 students from the peninsula out of 94 in the upcoming RN class doing the distance program. They showed us how classes will be conducted at our welcome reception. Basically, they will attend class on the peninsula but will be broadcast with our class in chesapeake. I forgot the technical terms but we will be able to see them on a screen in class & vice versa. In addition, they will be able to interact with us & ask questions to the instructor like we are actually all sitting in the same classroom. We all have access to the same resources and all receive the same instruction. I think its really neat! I think for them as far as clinicals go you can be placed at any of the sentara hospitals like us but I do think they will accomodate distance students because of location but am not sure. I think this will really be great for the peninsula learners & further expand the programs great rep. Hope this helps

What to expect in Sentara RN Program?
Hi capribry, Wow thank you for all the information. I love all the details you included and the heads up about the instructors. Ive been waiting for you and nursecadet to come back to allnurses so I could flood you guys with questions. I read the old posts from when you guys were first starting and was hoping you would sign back on soon. Im soo excited to be starting soon. We already had registration & welcome reception, I got my uniforms, etc. We are getting PDAs instead of books fortunately they said they are trying out somthing new to rid so many books & stay current so thats part of our fees for 1st semester. Yeah I have Ms. Wyche for 101 she seems nice. I going in with my eyes open. Too bad I gotta take nutrition & microbiology in 101 again being that I already took it as prereqs for another nursing program. For your summer break are you doing SNAP intern/extern? Also, were you one of those lucky ones who got the Sentara local scholarship? I just love hearing from current students and hearing so much positive feedback about the program Again thank you for the info & good luck through 4th & 5th semester!!!

Becoming an NP w/out BSN??
Hi all, I just wanted to get some opinions & reassurance about my situation. I have a BS in psych & will be completing a diploma in nursing soon. After that I will be heading straight for my WHNP or PNP. Just a bit of background info: I have already investigated all my options inside & out. Also, I have already attended an accelerated program (in 17K debt for 1semester/came out on medical emergency). I was accepted back into another accelerated program & turned them down because of already accrued debt (17K). I can't get back in 70K debt for my BSN+living/travel expense. My diploma program is FREE (work commitement) only 4months longer than accelerated program & best rep in my area & best employer yada yada. Essentially, to get my NP will be the same amount of time whether i did accelerated/diploma (only 4months difference) So because I already have BS I can apply directly to MSN w/only 2bridge courses at a high ranked graduate school. Tuition = 25K Do you guys think this will be a good investment for me?? Has anyone else done this??? Im going to be avoiding 100K for BSN & just have 25K for MSN & no BSN. I don't think in my area (Virginia) not having BSN is going to hinder me. Any input is appreciated

Adn-msn
Hi I am also intrested in knowing the pros & cons of each as I will be a diploma RN trying to go straight for the MSN-NP (I have non-nursing BS). Can you still become an NP w/out the BSN???
