Check out local community colleges and see what they offer. Google "LPN programs in NYC." A lot will show up, I am sure, but it will get you started. I'd consider potentially getting a CNA certificate as well, but that's truly up to you.
Hello I also live in NY (just upstate) and also have a GED. I want to start in the field 1st as well. I would like to eventually become a RN, but also have a family to support. So I want to work as a LPN for a while. Check your local county programs (BOCES, Milldred Elly etc...). I just had to take the TEAS test to get the application. I did not study (although I wish i would have, would have had a better score) however I have been in the field(doing mental health insurance for years) and I passed on my 1st try. i would advise you to study. I did my research and BOCES is the cheapest program in NYS.

hello,
It has been very hard for me to collect all the information i need in my research and i need someone to help me or give me a guideline or list of what i need to do to become a LPN. My ultimate goal is to become a RN (traveling nurse maybe), i want to do LPN first because i would like to be able to work in the profession asap and RN is more schooling which i do not mind but would want to work before that time. Can someone tell me what are the steps i should take what is the process etc. What schools they can recommend that will push me and help me and not trick me and set me back i am located in NYC i am starting from nowhere with no help or guidance i have only a GED so i can not go straight to a 4 year college. Please all you wonderful students/RN/LPN guide me and help me i am trying to change my life, follow my dreams, and make a change i don't want to be discouraged from lack of knowledge.
