I've been in college since August of 2006. I'm out of school now and still trying to figure out what to do. I know what I to be a Nursing working out there in the field in some capacity. I took just about all of my prerequisites for Nursing school and my grades in my classes haven't been that great. There is one class that I just can't seem to get through and that's Anatomy and Physiology 1. I took it once and failed, I attempted again and withdrew from the course, I attempted the course 2 more times and also failed. At the school I was attending when you take Anatomy and Physiology there is also a Lab. I always do fairly well in my Labs but whether you pass the Lab or not if you fail the lecture portion of the class you fail the whole course. Basically what I'm getting at is I've taken A&P so many times I feel like no Nursing school will even look at me. I want to take the course again at another school and then move on to A&P 2 but I'm just so nervous about failing again and messing up my GPA even more which is at 2.77. I got my Associate in Arts and also my Phlebotomy Certification but when I live in FL, jobs are very limited for me to even get any experience in the medical field. I don't know what my next step should be...

What exactly do you struggle with when it comes to that class? What about it makes it so difficult for you, personally?
Is there anything less science-y you're interested in at all? A&P is sort of the basics of nursing school...it only gets more complicated once you get in, so I'm not sure how well you'd do if human biology is something you have a hard time with, in general.
I'm not really sure what to tell you . You're right...you are risking lowering your GPA by taking it again, but I guess it could be worth it if you magically get an A? I think I'd really take some time and reflect and see if there's anything else you're interested in doing, or if there's something you can do, like improve study skills and whatnot, and then move forward from there.
Good luck!

Hi I live in the same area as you are. You first need to figure out the reason you not grasping A&P topics, is it the work load, is it you are distracted by family, freind not letting u time to study, are you trying too many courses at the same time etc. Take a step back..and just think. Dont try to just jump into the A&P if you not grasping it, so many retakes wont look good on your transcript, but dont give up either. Sometimes it takes time for us to "get it". I would suggest taking a Basic Biology course first see if you can find something free online at highschool level biology. Then if you do good at that, Take General Biology BSC2010 at college level. Try grasp the basics first of the topic then everything will be a lot easier. A&P requires a lab so there is no getting away from that. I took it online format with FSCJ. You may also consider getting a tutor, sometimes professors are just too busy to focus on every student. Career wise in the mean time if nursing is what you really want to do, since the GPA will be an issue u really need a 3.0 of greater to go straight into an ADN program, look into CNA or go the LPN to RN route and just work your way up...you will get there. My wife was considering RN then she said its not for her, but since she has her CNA she just got her first CNA job since getting licensed 2 years ago. But now she considering dental assisting. There many areas in the medical field you can do. It does not have to be RN, CNA or LPN, there's many others since you did phlebolomy, PCT or medical lab tech could be another options, there's many options for you...but whatever you decide its going to take time, it will be hard work but just hang in there. Congrats on getting your AA I just got mine 2 weeks ago and it took me 4 years to complete, look at my previous posts you will see i started this journey in Feb 2008 lol.So an AA degree is a big accomplishment.
