I am a nursing student graduating with a BSN in May and I will be working as a nurse part time and going to nurse practitioner school part time (may take 3-4 years to graduate as an np). Do I take the family nurse practitioner route or adult gerentology route to become a Neurology nurse practitioner? I have spoke to some professors and NP's and some have recommended FNP, some have recommended AGNP and some say either works. Which is the best route for me to take?
Thank you!

I work as a Neuro NP and have my AGNP. I also work with an FNP in my practice. We see all the same patients. Generally 12 and up. If you weigh over 100 pounds, I'm comfortable seeing you! However, I would probably recommend FNP as you may want to switch to a different practice setting and FNP offers you more flexibility. If you know you don't want to work in peds...then do AGNP. That was me. Just consider that this may change, I thought I would love peds as a new nurse and ended up loving older adults. So you can do either, depending how sure you are about what population you want to treat.

I work on a neurosurgery stepdown unit and we have a neuro NP service. They're all ACNPs. There are also epilepsy NPs and neuro-oncology NPs affiliated with the medical center and they are AGNPs and FNPs.
