All the postings I've seen for dialysis clinics want nurses who are already certified and have experience. How do I become certified?

you have to take a certification examination. You should apply anyways and get your foot in the door even though the ad says the prefer certified nurses. It isnt an easy test to just go and take if you have no background in nephrology nursing. When you get an interview just let them know that you are very interested in a longterm career in the field and that you would be more than willing to become certified after obtaining some experience.

Good Luck

Thanks so much!

I agree with Acute Dialysis RN. You should go ahead & apply for the job. Clinics would like to get nurses with dialysis experience & certification, but there are not alot of them out there. I think that a nurse has to already have some nephrology or dialysis experience before they can become certified. I'll have to check on that.

it sure seems like you have to have experience before you can become certified. (same with case management cert too). in some ways it's almost like putting the cart before the horse. thanks for your help.

Hi! for a nurse to get hired at a dialysis center, a nurse needs to get training in the field. Once the training is done, a nurse can get the 30 CE credits and the certification to work in the dialysis center. If you need more information how it works, please email me at [email protected]. I will be able to answer your questions.
