Bcit vs Langara

Published

Hello

I got accepted to the nursing program at Langara and recently got shortlisted to the nursing program at BCIT. I'm still deciding on which one to go to because I've been hearing so many things about the nursing program at BCIT. I was told that Langara allows you to work as an ESN while BCIT pays you during your preceptorship. Does that mean it is harder to get hired if you graduate from BCIT than Langara? I heard that ESN does help you a lot in finding a job..Experienced nurses please help!!

Most people I know got hired either where they did their preceptorship or where they did their ESN (I did from ESN). Keep in mind BCIT has two preceptorships...one in general med surg and the other one in a specialty if you like (otherwise med surg again). So that there would be two separate units to apply to. Honestly don't worry about it all that matters is you have a BSN in the end, not where you got it from. I'd personally pick BCIT cause you finish a year earlier and can start working sooner

I have the same exact dilemma.. I got accepted in Langara and got shortlisted in BCIT. I have been asking around and most of the people said it's what kind of learning style we choose... BCIT style is problem based learning (PBL), I graduated from BCIT but a different program and I would say they really prepare us to be in the field by giving us real problems and throwing us in the crime scene and they let us figure it out and if we get stuck, they are there to instruct us. On the other hand, Langara, I heard it's more instructional. I kinda like both style...

Also remember that with BCIT, you are able to choose a specialty, with at langara I don't believe you can. (Last time I spoke with them.)

GF who went to BCIT said it was a lot of older students. Not sure if it would be the same @ Langara.
