Hey everyone, I'm interested in applying for the program. But I have a few questions. I'm not sure if the process have changed much since 2008, but I'll give it a shot!

1) Is it really a MUST to have a car/be able to drive? Did bcit verify that somehow? What if I have someone who's able to drive me around?

2) Can you tell me a bit about the interview?

3) When are admission decisions made by? I assumed that you won't find out until some time around May?

THank you so much!

When I went through the program, we had to do both home care and public health. According to the info the school gave us, you need the car for home care because you have charts that you take with you and you can't take patients' charts on public transit or taxis. They did tell us that at one time in the past, one student had her dad drive her around. But that means whoever drives you around has to take 2 full days off per week to commit to that. I think in the new 3 year program you actually choose between public health and home care, so it may not be absolutely crucial for you to have a car if you choose public health (but having done both, home care is a better option because in public health you're mostly observing and not doing a whole lot). That said, I really wouldn't make it really make it known that you don't have a car as that will hurt your chances of getting in - besides you still have 2 years to get your license (that's what I did), and you can probably borrow someone's car or buy a cheap one.

The interview when I did it was a group interview. There were about 15 people per session. We all sat in a room and had to write 2 essays. I think one was about how you'd be good at a type of learning that they like to use at BCIT, and the other was about why you'd make a good nurse. Then the people running the interview talked a little bit about the program and the courses you'd be taking. After that, they would go around and each person would ask a question about the program. The quality of question you asked would be part of the criteria that you're "graded" on. For example, one person asked if she could drop out of the program after 2 year and become an LPN - she didn't get in.

I'm not sure when the decisions are made by. Just keep checking the mybcit website. Good luck!

I applied for the August intake this year. Will someone inform me when I should expect to hear from BCIT? The earliest and/or the latest?

Thanks a bunch!

Hi green_tea,

I believe you should hear end of march or early april if you are shortlisted. Then, you usually have 2-3 weeks to submit references, sometimes a short essay (not every intake requires an essay - mine didn't). You should hear a final decision by the end of April. Hope that helps! let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks jasn! This is really helpful! I was so worried that I would have to wait until June or July to hear back. That's a relief! oooo and what about the interview? When is it usually held? Thanks again!

I don't believe they are doing an interview anymore (they haven't for the past ~2 years). I have heard rumours that they might be bringing the interview back, but as far as I know it is still just references + sometimes a short paper. Good luck!
