BCIT August 2015 intake

Published

Hey everyone! I'm completely new to this site, but I just applied for BCIT nursing for the August 2015 intake and have been reading a ton of these threads! I noticed there doesn't seem to be one for this intake though, and so I thought I would start one! I'm hoping it'll help ease my nerves (and anyone else's who is in the same boat!) to know where everyone else's applications are at, and if anyone has been shortlisted yet?

I applied with a 3.9 grade average, with all my prereqs of course finished! I also have a total of 33 post secondary credits through Thompson Rivers University, and have almost 300 hours in volunteer work with BC children's hospital and the canadian cancer society.

I havent heard anything yet other than that my application has been received, and the status says "web app; not yet reviewed". Other years have said they were shortlisted already and had to fill out the questionnaire by April 5th? I'm guessing it's different this year? Anyone else heard anything? I'm hoping the applicants for this year find this post and we can start to get to know eachother! :)

Also, a couple questions I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere! How many applicants are usually accepted to the BCIT nursing program? I read that usually between 500 and 700 apply, but I want to know how many get in?! Also, I heard that there is an expiry of 5 years on biology courses? I took bio 12 six years ago, but then I took first year biology in university only four years ago... Would that replace it and make it ok? Thanks!

Hi Alyssa,

I've applied for this intake too, and am also (in)patiently waiting to hear back! It doesn't seem like anyone has been short listed yet, and with the long weekend I doubt we will hear anything until at least next week. I am currently at Douglas college and am finishing up my academic foundations for nursing there this semester, with about a 4.1 GPA in 27 courses, and I have about 20 credits from a year of sciences at SFU preciously with closer to a 3.0 GPA. Not sure if 9 of those credits count though as I don't finish them for 2 weeks. I have been volunteering with Fraser Health and Coast Mental Health weekly for the last 9 months and also have been working at a Mental Health clubhouse on weekends for a couple months.

My application says pending department review but I handed it in back in February so it's been like that for a while. So once they review all of your posted transcripts it will change to that. From what I have read on the previous threads they send out the shortlisting questionnaires in a couple of waves so it could be anywhere from a week to up to a month before we hear, but hopefully not! Also I have read in previous threads that they usually shortlist about 150 and only 96 or so get a spot. It also seems that the majority of people that get in have at least 50 or 60 credits so I am trying not to hold my hopes too high. I have gotten into Langara's program for Sept. as a back up.

As for the bio credits I believe that the 5 year rule is only for the pre req. courses that are post secondary not high school!

Good luck, and hopefully we hear soon!

Sounds like you guys have awesome GPAs! Mines good but not that good lol. I don't think you'll have any trouble getting in. I was short-listed two days ago. I bet you were too!

I emailed the nursing admissions committee regarding how many get wait-listed. If I hear back I'll let you guys know! 😎

169 were shortlisted 96 seats.

Thanks rayanne! Yes I got shortlisted too :) I've also been reading the other forum, so you don't have to go back and forth, but thanks for informing us on here too! I hope we all get in!! I'm nervous about the questionnaire too!

Ok! Sounds good :) and congrats :D

Hi, I got short-listed as well. I am currently doing the Non-cognitive Questionnaire :roflmao: Wish me LUCK! :D and good luck with you guys!

Hi guys! Im applying to BCIT this year and I was wondering if they look at your average from your entire transcript or just the needed courses?
