BC Nursing Supplies & Health Insurance advice

Published

Hi all-

Let me help you save some money since I already wasted mine!

If you join NSNA.com (Nursing students nursing association), they give you a $10 discount with allheart.com (where I bought my shoes and a few supplier), when you spend $25 or more.:twocents:

Their membership is $20 discounted the first year, and $30 thereafter. If you make use of the discount, you end up paying $10 the first year.

Further, I see that they offer health insurance, liability for $29/yr., discounts at retailers, etc. etc.

Check it out; looks like a great deal to me.

My biggest concern has been finding cheap health insurance while in the program. BCC no longer offers this to students, so I am trying to explore my options before I leave my employer. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Unfortunately, I had to purchase COBRA through my former employer, which cost me about $500 per month. Then, I enrolled on my husband's plan, which is about $350 per month. I tried to find affordable health ins but I couldn't!

Hi all-

There is a prepaid health insurance very reputable to South Florida residents. They operate under Blue Cross and Blue Shield. I have family members and friends that use their service and they say its very good. I think its very affordable and you can always dump them when you finish school.

Pros. you are insured the day you join no pre-screening involves.

you pay $150 to get started and after that monthly payments are

$58 for 1 person

$100 for 2 ppl

copays for Doctor visits are $10.

prescriptions are $2 n up for a 30 day supply

You have unlimited visits to your primary care and urgent care.

Cons. they give you a list of doctors to choose from(you have to go to those ones only)

(My friend complained about this beacuse she had to leave her long time doctor, but as with any insurance you can only go to the providers in the book).

if you go to the hospital or get admitted....that plan in separate.

Other than that I think its a great and cheap insurance to get you through school if your not picky individual.

Heres the number to call 1 888-503-7362 ext 0

$500 a month is insane! Try going direct to large insurance carriers in Florida. Don't go through an agent unless you want to pay more... the carriers will tack on an extra % to cover his/her commission. Trust me, I know. In a former life I worked as a health insurance agent.

These companies offer a variety of plans:

Humana: http://www.humana-one.com/

Blue Cross Blue Shield: http://consumerdirect.bcbsfl.com/wps/portal/cwsales/

Aetna: http://www.aetna.com/members/individuals/index.html

I personally visited Humana's site recently and was impressed by the options and prices. Check out all three and see what is available for you.
