Bay area Hospitals Relocating and travel assignments.

Published

Hi there!

Looking to relocate from soCal to the bay area in the next year. Wanted to get some experience before I relocate so by the time I move up next year my experience would include 2 yrs Telemetry and 1 yr ER experience with a BSN. I am looking at hospitals in the EastBay such as Highland or Kaiser Walnut Creek. I am relatively new to the ER so I am looking for experience (I heard Highland is great ED experience) but at the same time, I am a single mom and do not want to stress myself out too much. I recently visited John Muir as I am interested in working in a trauma center but it seemed very quite. If anyone could please give me some insight into moving into this area and what experience is needed to get into the market it would be greatly appreciated. Also, I have looked at travel assignment because I need to move up in the summer time before my childs school starts in the fall. Does anyone have any experience with travel assignments in the area..ie. days vs nights and stability.

Hey Lucky,

I know my post is totally off topic but I have been researching your previous post from over the years regarding St. Marys ADN program. I'm an aspiring nurse but due to my work schedule I can't attend a community college ADN program, but I could possibly attend a BSN program; however, most Colleges don't provide information regarding previous BSN schedules as far as classes and clinicals are concerned so that way prospective students would know what to expect.

So my question is would you recommend St. Marys College for working adult with little to no flexibility even though the cost of education comes with a hefty price? How long did it take for you to complete the program? did the program include weekend clinicals as advertised?

I have an overall General education g.p.a. of 3.1 and with the two science courses I have taken thus far, that being chemistry and anatomy, I have a 3.0 g.p.a on that scale with 3 more science courses left to go. Although everyone's case is different, if you don't mind answering, what was your g.p.a for general education and science electives. I just want to have an idea of what to expect in terms of admitance since it is not advertised on the college website.

I am in no rush to get into the ADN program as I have been completing IGECTC courses for 4 year university along the way. I just want to be fully prepared for admittance.

Once you did receive your degree, did you encounter any difficulties along the way acquiring employment? Was your pay what you expected for a new RN? Money isn't my motivator for this profession as I make decent wages as a federal employee and could be making more if I make it a career position, but I am just curious.

Hello Luckygirl77,

Did you ever end up relocating? Are you still looking for info? I live in Northern California and relocated from the east coast with my family. I have done some travel assignments and am now transitioning to 2 staff positions with great hospitals. If you'd still like info let me know. I can tell you my experiences and what I've done. Hope it all worked out. ;)
