Ballpark pay rates for experienced RNs

Hi All,

I've noticed that it seems like no one likes to answer questions about pay rates, but I still have to ask. I now have a full yr of nursing experience (in the ER). A soon-to-be former co-worker of mine just got a position in an ER in the city (Atlanta) paying $12 more that she's making now, with just 7mths ER experience (that's all her RN experience by the way). Now, I know that in general, your first job is always your lowest paying one because new grads aren't in a position to fuss, and really are just happy to not be the one who didn't get a job. What do hospitals in the city generally pay with experience? Is a $12 jump normal? The hospital we work at is outside the perimeter, but we started at $22+ just out of school. I just want to be aware of my surroundings/ options. i would really appreciate ur response, even if its just to say you have no idea :) thanks in advance!

12/hr jump is not normal. I make 18/hr with 3 years experience. That being said, I know 3 years ago fulton county northside was paying 32/hour for the er with experience because I know someone who worked there. The only reason I am making zero money right now is to finish a NP degree while working at a small rural hospital who knows I am outta there when I finish.

$18/hr is insane.....but that's why I wanted inner city wages because rural hospitals aren't competitive with their pay. Good luck with ur NP program

I'm glad that someone replied back to this post because I was wondering the same thing for when I move out next year. I have no idea what the start pay is with only a year experience. I am making right in between those two ranges. Any idea what the inner city rates pay with limited experience?
