Hello :)
I will be taking the Kaplan at Baker of Flint sometime this term or next term and just wanted to try to get some advice/info about it. I've taken the NET test at Mott Community College and found it to be fairly easy, however there was no science covered in the NET test. Is there a science portion on the Kaplan? What all does the Kaplan test on? Also, what is a good score to get on the Kaplan that will ensure acceptance into Baker's Nursing program? I'm so nervous because I know how important this test score will be to my future.
Any tips/advice will be very appreciated... thank you so much! :)

Math, reading comprehension, grammar skills, and A&P are what's covered on the Kaplan. I found the A&P portion so random. Some of the questions were things I would not have put much emphasis on.
I took the Kaplan in June of 2010. I only received a 79% on the Kaplan and my gpa was 3.98. I thought for sure I did not get in due to my Kaplan score. But I did, and I will graduate March 2012.
It is true that you need nearly a 4.0 gpa to be considered competitive. I'm not sure about the Kaplan score though.
If you have questions, don't ask your fellow classmates. Go directly to the Dean of Nursing to get your questions answered.
Oh, wow, thanks for your advice! and Congrats on your success!
Was there a particular study guide or anything that you found helpful in preparing for the Kaplan? And if you don's mind what do you mean about the A&P portion being random? I'm a little worried about that part because its been almost 3 years since I took A&P :/
I did not use a study guide. I reviewed basic math skills and looked over my A&P powerpoints.
There are about 20 or questions for A&P. Because there is so much information to know about A&P, I cannot recommend one particular area to focus on. The only thing I can recommend is to know your A&P like the back of your hand.
Unfortunately, I did not do as well as I would have liked in the A&P portion of the Kaplan. Perhaps using a study guide would have helped me to score a bit higher.
Good luck. I hope you do good. You can always ask a nursing student any questions you have. But definitely go to the Dean of Nursing.

Good luck!
I bought the study guide and made flashcards and had a study group with a couple of friends and we all found that the Kaplan exam guide was not helpful at all. The science questions are very vague for the most part so you will have to actually know the systems, parts and what they do. Don't focus on where the location is but more on the function of the system. I felt as if I knew the study guide inside-out and not one of the questions pertained to the areas of study fromt he guide. Study your handouts from your instructors and if at all possible, ask an old instructor if you can sit in a couple of A&P classes to refresh.
Most people found the Math portion to be fairly easy. I had a couple of difficult questions but as long as you know your basic Algebra, you'll do fine.
The Reading/Writing portions are also not so bad. Since the test is timed, I kind of kept watching the clock but I felt that I had more than enough time to finish the sections.
Also, you're tested on your critical thinking. I'm not sure how they calculate the score but they score you on how many times you click on different answers to the questions, how fast you answer questions, etc. It's nerve-racking but just remember, EVERYONE has a hard time on the Kaplan. Just do your best!
