Anyone who is a pre nursing student at Baker? I heard today that it is extremly impossible to be accepted. A women who sat next to me in Micro said her friend applied with a 3.9 (which is close to what I have, 3.91) and around a 80 on her Kaplan exam but she was denied. That got me really worried. I was wondering if there is anyone who is in the program now who could help eaze my mind a bit, or give it to me straight. Cause I will definatly be busting my tail to get 4.0 these next 2 semesters so I can bring my GPA as close to a 4.0 as possible! Also, if anyone has any good study adive for the Kaplan!? I'm sure there the same test at all Baker campuses, but to those who have taken it... What worked for you? Last, if all else fails and I dont get in at this campus or any other Baker campus, what are school that take most of Baker's credits?

I'm not familiar with the school you are applying to (try going to the forums on this website organized by state and then post something in there, you may even find posts already made about your school in there - they are under the "U.S." tab). But my advice to you is to do really well on the Kaplan exam. The person your friend was talking about had a high GPA but her exam score was just okay. With schools that have a large amount of applicants, there may be more qualified applicants than there are seats available in the program. Its the unfortunate reality of applying to nursing school. So what happens is the admissions committee will compare applicants and whoever has the best overall application is going to get a seat in the program. The person who has a 3.90 GPA and only an 80 on the Kaplan isn't going to get in compared to someone who has a similar GPA but a higher Kaplan score. Nursing is becoming one of the most popular careers to pursue these days and there are just so many people applying to programs that schools often turn away applicants who are well suited for nursing school because there aren't enough seats in the program. I would urge you to find other schools to apply to as a back up in case something like this may happen to you. Putting your eggs all in one basket is not always a good idea. Its nice to have other options! Good luck with the rest of your pre-nursing classes and study hard for the Kaplan exam!

Get the Kaplan study guide. I just took the test and the study guide helps a lot. With the science portion really study the systems and physiology and you should do fine.

Was the 3.9 her weighted or cumulative GPA? Either way, that's pretty good. If she also scored that high on the Kaplan, something else held her back from being accepted. I had a meeting with the director and one of the higher level advisers (since we can't say names on here), and they both said with my weighted GPA (which is also a 3.91), as long as I do well on the Kaplan, I shouldn't have anything to worry about. But there are so many other factors that might have held that other person back...the point system is kind of wacky so if she had to repeat classes, or had withdrawals, those all count against her...and of course the background checks and such. Who knows. I've learned (the hard way) not to pay too much attention to those around you or compare your grades/scores to anybody else with regard to whether they made the program or not. You'll make yourself crazy! Though I think we all have to be a little crazy to put ourselves through this! =)

Are you applying right now, for winter 2014 start? That's the class I'm trying for also. Here's to good luck for both of us!
