Bad GPA - history of F's and retaking classes

Published

I need your help please, can anyone tell me if I start back to school will I be waisting my time?

I really really want to be a nurse! I have the motivation, just not sure if it's too late for my grades.

4 times in the past 5 years I have attempted to go back to school. The first and second semesters I ended up quitting both times due to my husbands medical problems - he was in and out of the hospital alot, I ended up missing too many days and getting behind. I missed the withdrawl periods on both. The third time semester I did good, took two classes - both A's. The last time around I was doing good until around the middle of the class and I got stuck and couldn't get past my hang up so I failed due to bad grades and missing the exams.

One class that I took, is no longer offered so I know I am stuck with that 0. My question to you is, if I do attempt to go back again, will the bad grades I have now be replaced by the new grades I receive or will the 0's still show up on my GPA.

Here is my transcript so far.....

I just want to add this because I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, but when you go to apply for nursing school and need to do the personal essay or interview, just be honest about it. They all know that sometimes life gets in the way but if you can show that you're willing to work hard and are really passionate about nursing they will see that shine through. Alot of times it's not just your GPA that matters, but that they can see the improvement in your transcripts. Good luck and definitely don't give up hope! :nuke:

so everyone has said great things to help improve your gpa and most schools (ca) that i know of allow you to write a letter to their rn program/department explaining yourself and how you're going to do better, also you can try and petition some classes so the grades won't be counting in your gpa. 10 years ago when i first started my gpa was not great, a lot of classes i had to repeat which wasn't bad, nowadays that classes i took back then i took online or during a 6-8 week course so i finished a lot quicker, a few classes i petition with the dean of the department or i filed a hardship, so my gpa wouldn't look so bad. don't give up, there's away around everything you just have to work hard at it, stay focus and ask questions. hang in there.

i am good friends with one of my local university nursing admission directors. she stated you should go talk to a nursing school advisor who could guide you in the right direction. most nursing school admissions are based on a point system. most points gets in. vegas nursing schools go by total points for gpa, nln, previous medical experience. hope this helps.

Hello there. I was wondering if maybe you could help me. My situation sounds similar to yours. I have a lot of attempted college hours, 129 to be exact. I was in LPN program before but was unable to complete due to helth problems. I have been in the Surg Tech program too. My GPA is 1.29. Really low. I am currently retaking some courses the I did not do well in, but the real problem is when I wa in LPN program. The first semester I made As and Bs. The second semester is when I had health problems. I had to drop out. When I did I went to the admissions office and dropped my courses. I had to sign a piece of paper. My copy burned in my house fire. I recently requested a copy of my transcript and found out that they did not drop me from the courses, I have Fs. 20 hours to be exact. I can't prove them wrong because my copy burned. I asked them to look in my person file and I was told after 5 years they are destroyed. Is it possible to raise my GPA? Will retaking classes I did poorly in help raise my GPA and what can I do about the 20 hours of Fs? How do I go about correcting that? Please give some advise if you can.
