Bad days

What do you guys do when you have bad days?/? I graduated in June 200, passed NCLEX in aug 200, started working sept 07. I am currently working on a neurosurgical floor. And I just feel CLUELESS.. like i dont know anything at all. I dont know why i graduated from nursing school!!!!

I worked night shift last night and I am working on a neurosurgical floor and its just so hard !!! I feel like I don't know anything at all. I had 2 patients code last night. And I did not know what to do. I had a 90 year old patient with no heart or BP problems, only in w/ alzehimers and possible bowerl obstruction.

His heart rate was in the 40's, i ended u pcoding him and he went to the ICU. But I had no idea what to do.

I just feel worthless. Did i pick the wrong profession??? Am I tooo slow? Or what??

Sorry this is happening to you, but dont be so down on yourself. I have'nt graduated yet, so I cannot totally relate. But reading the threads from other new grads, it seems like the first year is the thoughest. You only started working about 4 months ago, give yourself some time to feel totally comfortable.

And yes, you did know what to do. You coded the patient, which was the right thing to do. Try to get feedback from your mentor or manager, to help in getting an objective evaluation of your performance. Remember, we are our biggest critics!

PS: Did you ever get that job at Hoag? How do you like it?

Nope I changed my mind about moving to California. I'm still living in PA... then I may do travel nursing to California. :)
