Bad A & P teacher! Help!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I had my first A & P lab on Saturday. One thing that really made me mad is that our lab starts at 12:30. I got there at 12:25. I was told that since people were already there, she went ahead and explained everything to the class. I don't understand! Why not wait untill CLASS STARTS? I was on time!

She told me what to do but I still am lost! For instance we're supposed to learn these models. The models have numbers written on them and correspond to numbered body parts in our lab manuals. We're to take digital pictures of the models and use our lab manuals to memorize the parts. However, the body parts she assigned and the page numbers she said the body parts would be on do not correspond. I asked for clarification and she was pretty busy reading her newspaper during lab time and gave me a vauge answer.

I just sat down to try and study and I'm at a loss. Everything is so wishy washy and vauge and when I try to get better answers from her she act as if I'm wasting her time and she has other things better to do! I feel like just a number but there are on 25 students in the class.

I don't know what to do. I'm really annoyed with her. I'm thinking of dropping the class and trying to take it next time with another professor. I don't find the material hard at all. I find her teaching style will make it hard for me to understand what is expected.

Yeah, I would say that your teacher is... shall we say... not very enthusiastic about teaching the class. I know how frustrating it is to take a class, pay for a class, and feel slighted by the teacher. In taking my pre-reqs, I have dropped a class and taken it with another teacher. I would be careful doing that if I were you... How far into the class are" you? Are you certain that your teacher will impact your grade? I know that at my school, dropping a class is counted as an "attempt" and we are only allowed 2 attempts for each class. If your school has a similar policy, it would be in your best interest to just stick with it.

I would certainly have a little chat with your teacher though. Are there other students that are having similar issues? With the starting of class early, I would say, "I was just wondering, I showed up for class 5 minutes early the other day and class had already started. Should I be arriving sooner? I thought the class started at 12:30." You don't have to make a big deal about it... just mention that the class started without you and you don't want to miss anything in the future.

As far as her being annoyed with you for asking questions... That's her problem. I'd have no problem at all just continuing to ask a bunch of questions. That's what she's there for! Eventually should catch on to the realization that she won't get any of her reading done and give up.

Good luck!

The same thing happened to me when I started taking A&P this semester. My professor was very vague and unhelpful. I would study the book and his study guide and the tests he gave were another professors tests and they did not correspond with what he had taught. I had to drop the class. On our first lab practical the highest grade for 2 classes was a 64. I am taking the class again this summer with another professor. Good luck with what ever you decide. Hopefully you will be able to continue. I would try having a talk with the professor first or see if other students are getting it.

Good Luck

I went through the same thing with my A&P II professor this semester. She was the department head (I should have known better). Anyway, she gave exams that in my opinion were not conected to the reveiws she gave. Not only that, she gave a lot of tricky questions. I thought that was strange considering it's a difficult subject already. I withdrew and registered for summer. I wouldn't normally take a class like this during the summer. But, I figured, with what I've already learned, I'll be prepared for the fast pace. Hope this helps.
