Hello Everyone! My name is Caitln. I'm actually getting ready to start my CNA training, but right after that I'm going to go into Nursing. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a good rolling backpack. I can imagine considering the amount of books nursing students carry, the backpack quality is important. I see the nursing students at my school with them all the time. My mom recently passed away and left me a large amount of money to pay for my nursing school specifically, so I just want all of my things to be top of the line. Let me know if you have any ideas!

To be honest, I don't carry ANY books because we rarely need them during lecture. (Your school may be different.) If you feel you absolutely have to carry a book around, I recommend de-binding them. Go to kinko's and pay $1.50 per book to have the spine chopped off. If you pay $.50 extra, they will hole bunch all the pages so you can put them in a binder. This way, you can carry the chapters you need everywhere you go withOUT breaking your back.

Wait until you start school, like the other poster said. We rarely need to bring our books to campus, and if we do it's only one. However, this semester I have a 4.5 hour break between classes so I do bring a book or two to get some reading done, so I got one of the rolling backpacks at amazon. Mine is a CalPak with "rollerblade-style" wheels. I don't remember what it cost, but I think it was less than $50. I also have a really old regular Jansport backpack that I can use if I'm not carrying textbooks, and two bookbag size purses that were on sale at Penney's last year - I use one of these for my clinical stuff, so I don't forget anything.

Mine is an Ozark Trail pack that I bought in the sporting goods area at Walmart. It is sturdy and lasted me through school. Honestly though...I only carried it the first 2 semesters before I got used to what books I needed with me at all times. But- I don't consider it a waste of money..as even at home I kept my nursing books in it for easy access.

I think it was around $35

When you buy your nursing textbook check to see if the publisher makes the book in a two volume set because you might only need volume 1 one day and volume 2 the next and wouldn't have to worry about carrying the whole thing around.

I personally don't have the need for a rolling backpack, but I know a few students in my class do have them and they work great for them! I think Jansport is pretty much the only brand I've seen but I'm sure there are many others. I've always been a fan of tote bags for school, but it's all about what's convenient for you and personal preference. My class doesn't require us to bring our textbook(s) to lecture.

Honestly...I use a regular backpack as we do not use our nursing books in class. We are presented with a power point and the book readings are on our own time. We used books for pre-reqs but there weren't enough at the same time to justify a rolling backpack.

I would wait and see if you really need one.
